Re: Agita over optical drive
Will look for 4x-rated media, but you know how the box stores are - only like to carry the latest and greatest. Going to be picking up more RAM today (finally making the 1GB-4GB jump, even though I know 32-bit windows won't recognize the last GB). Strange that firmware won't help this - as I've said...

Finally had a chance to pop the drive out and confirm the FRU # - 39T2829.

Re: Agita over optical drive
I don't think that drive supports 8X DL DVD media, regardless of the firmware. What is the FRU# on the drive? Don't know FRU offhand, will check it when I get home. I was under the impression that part of the firmware was a collection of media ID codes that allow the drive to properly "recognize" m...

Agita over optical drive
Very frustrated right now: Tried to burn a DL DVD on my T61p (see below) over the weekend, ended up with three coasters because my drive (the LG GSA-U10N) probably is too old in firmware terms (reports v1.05) to recognize 8x-capable media. So, I start googling for new firmware. No joy. I check LG - ...

Re: 600 only recognising some disks
Reading this thread got me to thinking about when I pulled the 4.5GB drive out of my 600 (2645-45U) for a 60GB replacement. I had both drives in and out of the machine a couple of times (with the little bracket thingy on them) because I had some issues with it not recognizing the new drive on a BIOS...

Re: 600 series battery: sources and expected battery life
I bought a 3rd party battery a few years ago for my 600, and get between 1.5-2 hours on a full charge, less if I do something strenuous (I'd barely make 45 mins if I was watching a DVD off the optical drive or even from an ISO on the hard drive). It doesn't seem like it's lost too much of its oomph,...

Re: Which 12V car compressor/tire inflator to get?
That Tsunami MF-1050 looks like an excellent piece of kit. IMHO, it certainly is - check out this comparison where it was stacked up against about 10 other compressors/inflators: http://www.parksoffroad.com/prodreview/inflatortest/inflatormain.htm (the "Master Flow MV-50" is the same compressor as ...

Re: Which 12V car compressor/tire inflator to get?
LIghter socket models are easy to use, but they're slow - I keep a Tsunami MF-1050 in my Jeep, and love it. It's 12V, but clamps directly onto the battery terminals because it's rated to draw up to 30A. Comes in a nice little carrier bag, too. A little more money, but well worth it. On the other han...

I'm running one of those in a 600, have been for a couple years.
I'm with Ajkula - something's very wrong here. What happens if you put the original drive back in this machine?

Are we sure the third contact isn't an additional ground? Is there continuity between the known ground on the 90W plug and this third contact?

Re: Results - Win 7 Beta on TP600X with 20GB HDD and 576MB RAM
So how does the machine perform now that you have it installed?
Maybe I'll have a go with it on my old 600 (2645-45U with PII-400 and 288MB ram) - I have a spare partition on the drive in it that I can use for dual-booting between 7 and 98SE.

Re: Is there any way to make the T61 speakers Louder?
I'll be watching this to see if any more interesting solutions present themselves, but I have to agree with the O/P - the volume capacity on my T61p does seem inadequate.
My old 600 with top-mounted speakers was able to generate quite a lot more volume. Perhaps they used a more powerful speaker.

Re: Thinkpad 600X Error 161 &163, hangs at blinking cursor (_)
Last time I got those errors, the CMOS battery (tucked in by the RAM sticks) was dead. Those codes have to do with the time and date not persisting (because the battery hasn't the power to maintain them). Try a new battery (tape the wires on your old one to a new cell from Radio Shack) and see if th...

yep, sounds reasonable, those hoses aren't really cheap; they need to be made well. it could have been so much worse, good for you. The possible causes of external coolant leaks are: My estimate of relative costs involved. [I do all my own work, so this is just a guess.] * loose hose clamp(s) [generally more of a problem in cold weather] - $ * leaking radiator cap - $ * hose(s) in bad condition - $$ * leaking expansion tank - $...

The analogy made in this thread--that of cell phone cameras--is perfect: camera phones are not up to the same photographic standards as regular cameras, but they're now so common that you can hardly get a phone without a camera, and it's well-integrated into the software, so you can assign picture ...

Well, if he isn't going to network it, he'd probably be ok with 98SE (I'd recommend 98SE over 98, simply because it's a bit more "mature" than original 98). While I agree $100 is high for XP, it still beats going to a retail store and paying upwards of $200 (assuming you can even find it at retail ...

What do you have against vegetables? :D Nothing. In moral terms, I don't think it's very interesting to relate to vegetables as living beings that one can have something for or against. They just don't have interests. At the risk of injecting a bit of humor into this, I'd ask that we recall Arthur ...

Yeah, that doesn't work either. There's some stuff at the Lenovo web site about an update for installation of Win98 in APM mode.
