any suggestions on a card reader that will fit in one of the expansion ports on the side? and are there any that are flush with the case when they are inserted?

doing the custom restore is fairly painfree, so definatly give that a try. that saves a lot of time cleaning off the extra garbage.

and as for the password problem, why don't you want a password? there's a reason they nag you so much to put one on, your laptop is much more secure with one.

I've got a T61 with 2gb of ram, and if i leave the turbo memory on, I get BSOD all day long. and that's with the newest drivers for it installed too. so, for now its a waste of space.

check in the power settings, i believe there is an option to optimized battery use for the wifi. that may be doing it.

if you are running vista, be sure to turn off some of the indexing features. I know its nice, but if you set it to just index your start menu, then its not too bad. And you can still search for files, it will just take a little longer.

got my T61 a week ago, and its IBM all the way!

Well, I have the nvidia chipset T61, and playing WoW at full resolution is no problem. The only other game I've tried so far is Civilization IV and that was smooth as well. If I find time to try anything else, I'll let you know.
