Where to find metal support piece by PCMCIA slot?

All, When I upgraded the processor on my T40, I noticed the metal bracket/support that sits above the opening of the PCMCIA slot was missing. If you look at the hardware maintenance manual, it is the piece labelled "b" on page 119 (removing the keyboard bezel). Any ideas on where to get one? I'm not...

Installed atheros a/b/g wireless card in my T40

All, I purchased an Atheros a/b/g wireless card on ebay and installed it on my t40. Things went smoothly. I had a Cisco 802.11b card originally. Here's what I did: 1) Replaced the Cisco Aeronet card with the Atheros card 2) Turned the machine on and Uninstalled the CISCO Aeronet software under Add/R...

7x5a processors

I have a 745a processor in my t40 and it runs fine. It was a deal for $55. It is the same as a 745 processor with the only difference being it is an OEM processor and has the execute disable bit (which the T40 doesn't use). I just saw on ebay a 735a processor for $30. That is a pretty good bargain. ...

Plastic screw covers and other small parts

All,

Where can I find the plastic screw covers that go on the bottom of a thinkpad to cover the palm rest screws? And also the ones on the LCD? Thanks.

LCD

All, I've done a couple more tests. Hooked up an external monitor and everything is ok on that. So, I'm guessing there is a problem with the LCD. The T40 I purchased looks like it has a brand new keyboard and that there was something done to the LCD. It's missing the plastic strip under the LCD led ...

T40 with horizontal lines on lower 1/3 of LCD

All, I picked up a T40 for my wife and was updating Windows when these horizontal lines on the lower third of the LCD showed up. They were evenly spaced, about 1/32" apart. You could still read, but it was like every other line was white. I shut the system down, then restarted. They flahsed on and o...

SL8QZ

Harryc,

Yes, I installed the SL8QZ in my T40 and it works fine. As far as I can tell it is the same as an Intel 745 but it has the execute disable bit (which the T40 doesn't use?). I've run Notebook hardware control and it identifies it as a 1,8Ghz processor.

Another question on wireless upgrade for T40

All, In addition to upgrading my Cisco 802.11b wireless card to an Atheros a/b/g card, I also am planning on installing a Hitachi 100gb, 7200 rpm drive. I was planning on running the recovery disks to set the drive up (I don't have much stuff installed on the standard 40 gb drive). My question is th...

Wireless upgrade on T40

All, I've got a T40 with the Cisco 802.11b card and would like to upgrade it to one of the Atheros cards. I'm guessing I would remove the CISCO Systems software that is loaded on my T40 and then load the latest driver for the Atheros card? Has anyone else done a similar upgrade? Do I need to do anyt...

Pentium M 745a - SL8QZ

All, I recently picked up an IBM T-40 with a 1.5Ghz processor for under $300. It's in excellent condition and I'm thinking of doing a couple of upgrades. It has a 40Gb 5400rpm drive, so I probably won't do anything with that right away. I'm going to install a 1Gb stick of memory and possibly upgrade...
