R52 Ultrabay Lever question

Hi all, I have an R52, type 1849-4WU. The Ultrabay Enhanced pull lever (not the release switch) is loose because one of its little metal guides snapped off. This is causing some problems with hibernating and the computer thinking I want to eject the Ultrabay adapter holding my SATA hard drive  ...

Another option, which is free, is JBidwatcher, a Java-based application. I have used it successfully many times, although I have not yet tried the latest version (2.1.5).

Re: Can you tell me anything about this A31?

I noticed this interesting sentence in the listing: "LAPTOP CAN BE BUYED FOR SPARES AND PARTS LIKE SCREEN, BATTERY, INCHS AND MOTHERBOARD."

Did you buy it for the INCHS? I don't have that on any of my ThinkPads.

Re: miniPCI Atheros - inverted LED signal?

Hi lukee,
I do not have a T43 but I have its close cousin, the R52, with Intel 2915 wireless. My wireless LED is lit continuously when the laptop is on and blinks during data transfer. I would assume the T43 is the same but someone else can confirm that.

Re: Second HDD in instead of optical drive -will it work & which

Original ones lets you take the rubber bumper off and slide it in with the screws intact, ebay ones does not, you have to remove all the screws off the hdd, kinda time consuming.. Although my SATA Ultrabay adapter is marked "ThinkPad", I believe it is not OEM but rather a "knockoff". However, I did...

Re: Virus scanner on a cd? Pc recorvery tools?

Avira offers a "rescue system" anti-virus file that is bootable, using either an ISO or SFX file. in the downloads section of their website here. It is updated several times a day. I have used it successfully in the past, burning the iso to a cd-rw.

Re: cloning problem

taichi, For the sake of clarity, are you trying to clone the drive, i.e. make an exact bootable copy on another drive, or make a backup? Do you want to swap the drives when you are finished or is the external drive only used to store a backup of the internal drive? You keep saying clone but then you...

Re: Hard Drive Cloning

You should have no problem if you, as you say, install the new drive before cloning. I did it with an R60 successfully. After cloning, disconnect your old drive before booting the new one. Good luck!

Welcome to the Forum!
For best results, please post a WTB (want to buy) or LF (looking for) ad in the forum Marketplace listing your full machine type and model, as you have done here. I'm sure someone will oblige.

Re: New Thinpad X201 Tablet: Boot to external USB drive?

Welcome to the Forum! I use an external USB DVD drive occasionally to boot True Image from CD with R60 and R52 and have never had a problem. Have you tried the setup with another computer successfully? I can only think of a couple of reasons for failure. Does the drive have a power source/cable in a...

I just bought a 6 cell from the outlet a week ago and paid $56.24. :( Two day shipping was free. :D It's a Sony. :( It had zero cycles and its full charge capacity is equal to its design capacity. :D

Re: What card slots do I have?

Jonathon, It's not a dumb question. sisyphus got it right but, to expand, the slot with the dot on the button is the PCMCIA. I believe it is a 32 bit CardBus slot. The one with the "X" is the Express Card slot. They are not interchangeable. Lovely area you live in. I have been fortunate to be able t...

Re: External enclosure for Samsung ata laptop drive

The part number on that IDE enclosure refers to the enclosure with 40GB hard drive installed. According to another older thread here, IBM never officially sold the empty enclosure by itself (the curious may feel free to search :D ). It probably works fine, however.

Re: Seagate Momentus XT, 500GB??

A few points: For cloning an existing drive, in addition to the USB enclosure and ultrabay options, you may also use a USB cable which attaches directly to the drive. It comes with its own power supply. Seagate DiskWizard is a limited version of Acronis True Image. It does run in Linux when booted f...

Just so I understand, George, have you applied any Microsoft updates since SP2 or not? I understand your reluctance because I have had problems with some updates, too. Since the first one I always image my drive before applying. Again, I am just curious and have no agenda.

To clarify the situation, would you please tell us what you mean when you say rescue and recovery disks? It is best, when contemplating an OS change, to burn recovery disks first so you may return the ThinkPad to like-new condition whenever you desire. Since you've already installed Win 7 (clean ins...

Re: Used T60 has no OS but does have XP CoA

I am pretty sure you will be able to use your other T60's recovery disks to restore the new (to you) one, provided they both have a COA for the same operating system. In this scenario, you will not need to use the license key on the COA; Lenovo already included a group license in the pre-load and it...

Re: T60 with dead battery, freezes in Windows XP

I haven't heard that a dead battery can cause the symptoms you describe. My R60, a close cousin to your T60, had a similar issue that was caused by bad clusters on the hard drive. The fact you can run a boot CD environment without problems would tend to support the possibility your hard drive is bad...

F.Y.I.: If you use the Ultrabay battery, the ThinkPad will discharge it before discharging your main battery. See this thread.

Re: New Battery 0 Cycles - How Do I Charge?

Relax. I think maybe a deep breath is needed. :) You're not going to "mess up" your battery, no matter what you do. I use my ThinkPad 99% of the time on mains power, so I set my battery to start charging at 40% and stop at 50%. I have read that optimal storage condition is around 40% charge. When I ...
