Positive feedback for FAIR Traders
Just want to thank mgb for the trouble he took to send me a T4x longfan from the States to Germany. I appreciate his effort, and can highly recommend him as a seller.

[LF]Longfan for T42
Need a longfan cooler for a T42, preferably several to keep the individual shipping down (Germany). Payment by US$ check from Cincinnati bank. Anyone interested? No problem with references - people here know me.

Warníng: Used HDDs Sold as "New"
There is presently a scandal in Germany because some dealers have been selling used HDDs as new. The HDDs involved were made by Seagate, Western Digital and perhaps others. Some of them are marked "refurbished", most have no special identification at all. A report on this has been published by the G...

Welcome to the forum!
Sorry, but I don't understand what you need. If you can write German or French better than English, you might try doing that. Or even write Hungarian - Google has a nice translating service. One way or another, we'll do what we can to help.

anyhow, i need lots of screen real estate in order to have the pics opened to the largest possible size as well as a word processing page where i'm transcribing the data on the pics. As a matter of curiosity, why transcribe anything? Modern OCR programs handle stuff like this without too much diffi...

@Neil: A proper replacement battery won't cost you any more than the drug store one In that case, your drugstore must be a very expensive place indeed. I generally replace the CMOS batteries by pulling off the welded - not soldered - contacts and taping them (with plastic electrical tape, pulling it...

Re: How to install both OS/2 Warp 4 and Win XP Pro on T42p
Let's take this in order... 1) I personally would make three partitions: one of perhaps 50GB for the WinXP and associated programs/data, one of perhaps 1GB for the OS/2 system partition, and the rest for OS/2 programs and data. Partition C: for WinXP, D: for OS/2 and E: for OS/2 data and programs. 2...

Re: Any other smokers left on this forum?
Hi George, I don't smoke, although I used to, and despite a lung condition vehemently object to the sitgmatization of smokers in present societies. My lung condition has nothing to do with my previous smoking - but a lot to do with stupidly renovating a Canadian Cotage without a dusk mask in the 197...

But they definitely prevent a reflow! You might read in the threads that there is no remedy... Well, not quite. As Nick (poshgeordie) has determined, you can soften the epoxy with DMF enough to remove it. However, it's apparently harder to get DMF than I (chemist) expected. It's neither particularl...

Re: LF: Recovery disks for T60 1951
The set I have (altogether 8 CDs, including R&R Bootable and Supplemental) is for both the 1951 and the 2007.
Type: 2007,2008,2009,1951,1952,1953,2623,1954,2613,1955,2637
There don't appear to be any differences.

Try Smart Boot Manager. Boot it with a diskette and then see if the PMCMIA drive is recognized.I'm currently bypassing all this bunk with a PCMCIA X24 CD drive that reads CD-Rs just fine, but I can't seem to use it at boot up, to install an OS. Any suggestions?

I've disassembled my Thinkpad before in order to clean it out, and it worked fine after I reassembled it and so last night I took off the keyboard as well as the touchpad to clean it out some more, but I'm now worried about whether I've put it back together properly. What model? And the reference t...

Re: Where to find a nice T4x in Canada?
Two questions:Prices are about $60 apart for the base T43 models with the offical IBM site being more costly...
1. Do you really mean you can buy a T4x for $60 Canadian in Canada? If so, grab it fast - the price is unbeatable!
2. What does "apart for" mean above? "Apiece" or "except for"?

some of ther commerical CDs ?? I'd say there are two possibilities: dirty lens (try gently cleaning it with a Q-Tip soaked in isopropyl alcohol) or the lens is misaligned and there's no real way to go except to replace the drive. Some drives have been known to have problems with CDRW discs and - at...

Re: T23 won't boot/power at all after shutting down (new mobo!)
Is there such a thing as a new T23 motherboard - unless someone bought one when the machines were still being made and hoarded it all this time  At any rate, I'd go along with the consensus that the best thing would be to resolder the inductors. I've also made a scan of those on the top and bo...

Re: Please help, I don't know how to take the fan off
You definitely need to remove the palmrest before trying to take off the CPU cooler, but a T40p only uses standard Phillips screws. There are no Torx screws (the six-sided star) normally used in this. Have you looked at the head of the screw with a strong light and a magnifying glass? If someone has...

Re: Boot T40 Without Key Board
The suggestion of using a dock (port replicator) is the best. These cost only around $15 for the T4x series, and are well worth the money for testing boards. You'll also need at least one RAM module, plus a PS/2 keyboard, plus an external monitor to test.

I've had good and very bad experience with these "I don't know" parts - the worst was a display that was missing both the inverter and the flat-band cable, although the display was otherwise complete (hiding the deficiencies). You never can tell, and I would agree that if you buy such stuff, you sho...

Re: which thinkpad i shd buy????
What do you want to do with it? Word processing, surfing in general: a T23 is perfectly adequate. Video processing and modern games: anything from a T40 on up is OK. A T60p is already pretty high-powered and for "normal" use overpowered. Lots of people use computers that offer much more than they re...

Re: 770x Dead CMOS = Battery Charge Problem
The CMOS replacement is a Energizer CR2025 that is generally available at WalMart. It is a lot easier to replace than the CMOS Battery on the T23. Let's just say that the holder on the T23 is a pain  Basically, you can replace one of these CMOS batteries with a CR2025 or CR2032 fairly easily ...

These eBay CMOS batteries are only good for 1 trip. Make sure you get a couple or next boot the time displacement circuits will be fried and you'll be stuck in 1985! Stranded with stonewashed jeans, keytars and shoulderpads! Don't confuse the poor guy, Doc. CMOS batteries from Ebay are no better an...
