https://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/Power_Connector#How_to_use_170W_powersupplies_with_other_Models (I didn't put it in the wiki) Though the topic is old the question is still in demand. I too was wondering if one could turn on w520 using the 90w adapter - many 135/ 170w sellers will tell you no to get y...

Did you upgrade the BIOS on your new Thinkpad?
Regarding if it's worth it... well, do they make newer laptops with decent keyboard? I haven't seen one besides the ThinkPad Retro.

Re: Buying a W520 in 2019?
Well, if you want to get used to a nice keyboard you will probably never ever get again in a newer laptop; by all means by a 8 year old Thinkpad. If you can get used to the current useless keyboards; do that, it saves you the agonizing that you cannot get as good a keyboard as you are used to in the...

Re: Warning: advise against disassembling the the Series 3 docks
Ouch. I took one of my 4338's apart to do the same because I didn't like it blocking W520. The only issue I had was some stupid spring that insisted on being free... I would have tried glue though in this case. I have even glued the bearings in a bicycle wheel beause the hub had worn out, still good...

Of course teachers are a big subscriber to those false assumptions. Civics at my school was taught by (which I only found out ...

Re: T61 14.1" Charging takes +3hours on 65W. What is the maximum modern charger ?
All these older laptop simply do not have fast charging. It's not an issue of adapter power but rather battery technology and charging circuitry. The 'standard' stronger charger for that series is the 20V/90W, which would be the recommended one for your T61. Next one up: 20V/135W as e.g. used for W5...

Re: T60 with 2504 mini dock, 23" & 19" displays -- has desktop icon names blurry
Yes, W10 is the culprit! However, when I ran Windows 7 on the machine I was getting delays sometimes a few minutes before I had control of the machine again. Moving to Windows 10 stopped those delays... They were hell, the blurred icon names is an annoyance. I'm not retreating to Windows 7 on that ...

If you watch 16:9 material on a 4:3 TV the view area is just as big if you keep the width the same...
Also; I haven't really seen CRT's with bezels as slim as some new stuff...

Re: Change hard drive to say 500Gb or 1TB
Even older 7200 rpm drives will have lower access time than new 5400 rpm drives. You need to look at platter density for throughput. 7200rpm drives run more noisy though. And for OS; get an SSD. SATA II or SATA III with HDDs doesn't make a difference. Only the cache will exceed the SATA II limit. SA...

It's just a CR2032 in shrinkwrap and a connector.
Be careful when you pull it off the mainboard.... the connectors are as strongly attached to each other as to the mainboard....

Can anyone tell me if I can add an external touch screen monitor to my W520? I know I will have to upgrade to Windows 8 or 8.1? You don't have to upgrade to W8 or W10 in order to use a touchscreen. Re: Can I use the mSATA slot for RAID on a W520?
Both of the mPCIe slots for SSDs? mSata only works in that 2nd slot. Also note that they are mPCIe, not M.2 RAID 0 with the mSata slot is silly, since the Ultrabay and main bay are SATA-III (600) and the mSata is SATA-II (300). So RAID 0 between the mainbay and mSata will yield a theoretical max of ...

It is encouraging to see people advertising the ratio of the screen area to the laptop area (91% for the new Matebook vs 69% for the Thinkpad T25). This is a number that really matters, and may encourage taller screens. It's slightly less encouraging though to see them getting rid of: Home/End, PgU...

Lenovo doesn't sell the fans separately. But search eBay for 60Y5493 and 60Y5494, those are the FRU's listed by the HMM as "Thermal module for W510". Try looking for 70++ batteries (which replaced 55++). They are going to be a bit fresher, although I am not sure new ones are still being manufactured. There will always be plenty of eBay sellers selling non-genuine (compatible) batteries; you can ask them which cells they use. The 70++ that I boug...
