Re: TP 600X 189 error

The eeprom causing your problem are divided into sections. Updating the uuid will update just one of these sections. Each section seems to have it's own checksum. The uuid and the serial number are in different sections. Therefor I suggest that you try updating the serial number - using the maintena...

Re: 760ed win95 install problem

A 760 can boot from an external FDD, but there is no generic external FDD's available - you will need an IBM external FDD of similar age as the 760. The 760 has an external floppy connector, locate at the back of the Thinkpad. You may have to look on ebay or a similar place to find one. And of cours...

Re: Trouble Booting or Restoring 770X

I am not entirely sure, but I believe that a 64 GB hdd is to big for a 770x to handle. I think that the limit is somewhere below 8 GB. My 770x has a 5 GB hdd. At the state your hdd is currently in, I guess that it's MBR has been corrupted, so do a FDISK /MBR to fix that. Then you can try allocating ...

Most likely, you will have to re-partition the hdd. ms-dos 6.22 can not handle partitions above 2 GB. If your drive is large than 2 GB then you can create 2 fat16 partitions each being up to 2 GB in size, install dos in the first partition and place the w98 install files on the second partition. Als...

As I see it there is only 1 fuse that can cause a completely dead r51 and
that is the fuse sitting very close to the dc in jack.

Re: Broken capacitor-looking thing on a 770 DC/DC board...

When a component number can be identified on a pcb, then the type of component can be identified by that number. Component numbers are usually one letter and some (3 or 4) numeric digits. The letter means: R - resistor C - capacitor D - diode L - inductor T - transistor X - Crystal (XTAL) F - fuse I...

Re: Thinkpad A31 doesn't turn on with power supply cord inserted

Mecanically defect usb ports are rather common on a30/a31. Replacing these connectors are doable. I have been there myself. The largest problem will be finding replacement connectors that will fit. One option will be to get replacement connectors from an otherwise dead donor board. Possibly you shou...

Re: ThinkPad T22 Flaky RAM Issues

Check for a loose memory socket. To clarify what is ment by loose memory socket. There is one socket into which 2 memory modules can be installed. This 'dual' socket is soldered to the motherboard. It is the solder joints between the socket and the MB that comes loose. Visual inspection using a time...

Re: 240Z Inverter, dim after 60 seconds....what is it?

So, quick question - do you think the circuitry involved in the first minute or so of powering the inverter is different from thereafter? Could it be a different circuit is involved and therefore different fuses? As I understand it, power wise, the input to the inverter is the 16V DC from the AC Ad...

Re: Booting from PCMCIA on a TP 365xd is possible!

I cannot say about this specific model as I do not have a such, but I know that a 600 will not boot from pcmcia/cf when there is no harddisk (hdd1). That might be the case here. Else there is also the possibility that you will need to disable IDE2 using the configuration utility. Ref: https://forum....

Back in 2006 when I first got my 770x it came to me with symptoms that I recall as being similar to yours. By googeling, I found someone saying that what they used to do in such cases was to replace the DC-DC board. So I ordered a replacement DC-DC board and it worked for me. I can see from me old n...

According to my old notes, I have had this error twice and successfully repaired both. First time on a A31p where I repaired one broken trace with a piece of wire. Second time on a A30 where I had to replace a PNP Power transitor. Since you have A31, I guess that you will only have to repair one bro...

Re: 2 x R50e machines

I can only think of 1 fuse that could cause a totally dead machine. That is the one located near the DC in jack. Alternately you could try running it on battery or power it through a port replicator / docking station. If it was me to deal with this, then I would go straight to the MAX1631 chip and m...

It doesn't matter if the cmos battery is working or not.

Forget about SpeedStep. I was trying to suggest you to try running without the battery,
but as you mentioned, that has been tried already.

If you hit the ESC key when the IBM logo displays, then you will see what is going on.

Re: T21 shuts off randomly

Most likely the symptoms you are observing now, is what caused the CRC 0175 error to begin with.

If the battery is removed then - due to SpeedStep - the CPU will run at a lower frequency and therefore generate less heat.

Does the AC Adapter get worm?
Do you have another AC Adapter to try with?

Re: Tearing hair out - T2x white screens...

I cannot recommend to bridge it.
The reason why it blew might well be caused by one of the cables or lcd's you have had hook up to the mb.

If you happen to have a board that is beyond repair, then you might be able to get one from there.

Re: Tearing hair out - T2x white screens...

I just went through some notes from 2008.

It reads:
T22 with white screen.
Fuse F4 blown.
Fuse F4 replaced.
XGA LCD now ok.

F4 is located at the bottom side of the board.
It is a tiny black component, looks mostly like a resistor.
It has the mark 'N' on it.

I'd say you should change the bios battery. It is a standard CR1220 battery.

To rule out any windows issues, go to bios setup, select change date/time and try to set month to 22, this should make it beep at you.

Memory sockets coming loose isn't something that only occurs for T30 systems. It can also occur on T2x and A2x systems. With a good magnifying class, you should be able to see the loose connections. I believe that it will be faster to do a visual inspection instead of testing the various memory comb...
