DoppelFish,

I have tried what you said and setup a dualscreen and it both layouts work. However, I still get low refresh rates on the external monitor

So this is a no go :(

Thanks any way for the tip.

Any other takers?

Also try out the following program powernowd - this seems to suggest that it only works for amd processors but this is not so. It will work with any kernel that suppports sysfs and the cpufreq stuff all you need to verify is if the speedstep-centrino is loaded and cpufreq-userspace. If so then power...

Dear Mack, No it is not possible that linux suddenly modifies the embedded controller. Are you running a dual boot? Windows and Linux? if so did you recently modify any settings in windows? Or does the machine display the same noisy fan under windows. I'm thinking hardwre problem. Temperature sensor...

xfree86 4.3 on A30p and external monitor

Dear All, I hope someone can give me hints on how to do this. I mean, I have it running, but the refresh rate is terrible. The primary display on my A30p is a UXGA flat panel @ 60 Hz vertical refresh rate. The external monitor I'm using can to 1600x1200 @ 88 Hz vertical refresh. It is an IIyama Visi...

Actually I would find it very disturbing.

Does the same problem appear on an external display? If so it is propably not related problems with the LCD panel and I would definatly have ibm service tha machine.

I KNOW This is an issue with the Entire A30x series. I do not know what is wrong with them. Soon I'll be on my fourth mainboard currently on my third which had an issue upon return from the service centre with the firewire port. Since repair took 7 weeks I said hey order the parts when they are avai...

I cannot vote on this. I do not use windows at all. Colleagues at work call the XP style Telly Tubby Windows which seems to be a reference to a TV show for Children by the BBC (I think.)

So, I am indefferent to this one why not epand vote with the I couldn't care less option?

Try Looking in the bios. I vaguely recall that the beep could be configured there.

I find the beep useful. I do not always have music playing when I raise or lower the volume. Audible feedback is IMO good.

I don't know what you hit, I do know, that the volume control can be configured to beep at you when changing volume, it beeps at the relative volume you are setting.

Sandy, It was my pleasure to be of assistance. Personally I use a commercial Xerver on my A30p (summit platinum by XIG, http://www.xig.com , this is not a plug but at the time XFree86 did not support my chipset.) FWIW the Xorg server is a fork of XFree86. That means IMO that the Xorg server suffers ...

Sandy, I have an A30p which obviously is different from your T42p. But why you would want an IBM recovery cd is beyond me. I have been happily running a debian unstable on my A30p since I got it 2.5 years ago. I still run the original windows installation for bios upgrades etc, etc, etc. I also stil...

Yeah, I find that the A3x series has more than one flaw. The video card is definately a weakness on these machines. My mobo has been replaced twice, the second time it came back working as new. Apart from the fact that the firewire port did not work (and still does not) I have a repair call running ...

Stangbandel, The way you phrased your problem leads me to conclude the following: I can't play music off a CD if I do not insert a DVD. That leads me to conclude that you have two units a cd-rom/cd-writer and a dvd-player. Questions: Is my assumption above correct? If so does that mean you cannot pl...

James, I guess nosmoke.exe is not compatible with your monitor VEG (very evil grin) (I guess the emoticons don't support this one.) No seriously. I was certain it wouldn't work. A31p processor on an a30p

Ummm, I just read in a forum on another site that a processor from the A31p may actually fit (likely since form factor is the same) and work (this I find questionable as the A30p uses pIII mobile and the A31 pIV mobile.) If I am mistaken then I would really like to hear from others who have tried th...

Always use certified RAM. There is no percentage in using the cheap stuff if you really, really, really depend on your machine. The extra pleasure you get from certified RAM is usually not readily apparent (i.e. the machine does not crash, it simply works.) The price you pay for uncertified ram is o...

My guess is that it will require warranty work. Clearly something is either loose or downright broken inside. If you use is as a USB device it will run out of the box. For firewire you will need to rescan the scsi bus. LaCie is usually a mac shop so they partition their disks in mac format.
