Security Chip Question
Hello everyone, I own an X61, which has the TCG TPM 1.2 (Atmel 97SC3203). I used to own an X31, and I remember there was an option in the BIOS to choose whether you will allow the security chip to be reset (e.g. if you forgot the password) or not (i.e. you forget the password, your motherboard is br...

X31: Randomly won't boot, no power...
Hi, Recently I've noticed that my beloved X31 will occasionally (as in once or twice a month) refuse to boot. I push the button to turn it on, but the unit does not indicate it is receiving any power. This happens whether I am trying to boot from battery power or from AC adapter. To fix the problem,...

Client Security Fails Once on Startup...
Hello all! I have an X31 and I use IBM Client Security. I have it set to prompt me for the security chip's password to log in to Windows XP (versus logging in with the Windows XP login prompt). Well today, for whatever odd reason, when I booted up my laptop I was prompted by Microsoft's Windows logi...

DVD Multi Player (for some sort of base/dock thingy) 27L4351
Hi! I bought an X31 from eBay, and the seller also included a brand new DVD-ROM ("DVD Multi Player") for ThinkPad docks (or bays or whatever you call them). But my auction did not include a dock, so what do I need it for? Seller advertised it as brand new. But I have no way to test it. But he ...

According to http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/Category:X31 it supports PC2100 or PC2700 RAM. Now, does that mean some X31 models support only 2100, and others 2700, or do ALL X31 models support EITHER speed?
Thanks again!
Thanks again!

Thanks for the welcome! The guy I bought it from has disabled a bunch of services and stuff in Vista, but to be honest it runs decently! Except for DVDs. Well I guess I don't need Vista, so wiping the HDD is no big deal. However, will it install a predesktop area automatically? Because I don't want ...

Vista, X31, and Mr. Bean
Howdy! I bought a used X31 (2672-PBU), and it came with Vista Ultimate (it has 512MB RAM, 1.6 centrino). It also came with an external IBM USB 2.0 CD-RW/DVD-ROM Combo Drive (part # 22P9195, FRU 22P9209). DVD movie playback in Vista is... choppy, and the audio isn't sync'd with the video. In all - te...
