Re: 4GB 1067 vs 4GB 1333 ?

OK, I purchased a W510 (4318-CTO) and upgraded to 8GB of 1333MHzam no problems. Just added another 8GB of 133 MHz ram and both the BIOS and Windows Pro 7 (64 bit) report only 8GB instead of 16GB. CPU-Z detects all 16GB of ram and the Lenovo system info utility reports 8GB but then lists all 4 of the...

Re: New W510 w/ FHD, TopSeller w 3 yr - Issues and Questions

Just purchased and received a new W510 myself so I'm trying to find out some answers as well. 1) There should have been an option to select free XP recovery disks on the order screen. Not quite sure of the point of that but I took them anyway even though I'm running Win 7 64bit. In one of the servic...

Re: 4GB 1067 vs 4GB 1333 ?

So does the W510 run at 1066 MHz or 1333 MHz. The TABOOK says the controller is up to 1333 MHz however memory is listed PC3-8500 1066 and/or PC3-10600 1333. In fact 4319 models are listed as supporting PC3-8500 while 4389 models are listed as supporting both PC3-8500 and 10600. Is this just a mistak...

Re: First Glance... T510

RE: The flex on the display lid, is this also a problem on the W510? I was hoping that, as a Workstation laptop, this might have the extra strength in the lid. Up until now I have carried my trusty T41P unprotected in a fairly tightly packed rucksack for the last 5+ years. I'd always been a bit worr...

Re: W510's monster 135W AC adapter (55Y9317)

I have to say that I'm interested in the W510 for running large memory intensive, multi threaded VMware images but the size of the power brick puts me off. I travel quite frequently and having to lug around a large heavy brick is a pain, figuratively and physically. I was kind of hoping the slimline...

Re: Whats the best LCD or screen rez you have used?

I'm still using SXGA+ from my trusty T41P and like that very much. However, I'm very tempted to go with WUXGA for the next purchase as I like a lot of desktop area. Must try and see a display before I buy next as these things are all very subjective.

Re: T400s pricing in UK...

Here's an alternative service that should open up more opportunities to purchase from vendors who don't ship internationally. Can't vouch for what the service is like but might be worth a look. This should let you purchase from the Lenovo website in the US and let you build a CTO model and even use ...

Clarksfield quad mobile....

Any whispers on the street about Lenovo incorporating the new Clarksfield quad mobile processors into their line-up? I imagine they would be targeted at the W series rather than T but you never can tell. Looking at Wikipedia their TDP is reported as 35W-55W with some recent reports stating 45W. Does...

Re: T400s pricing in UK...

Unless IBM/Lenovo have had a general clampdown then I wouldn't give up on the US option as there were always shops that wouldn't ship abroad. If I get a few minutes I'll have a dig around and see if I can find any other retailers outside of the UK that will ship. As for the Lenovo UK web site see my...

Re: T400s pricing in UK...

I imagine the warranty doesn't change much however I'd always take a screen snapshot or printout of the IWS countries listed for the particular model and keep this with the other purchasing documents. Have you checked again to see if the countries are listed as I'd want to make sure we were both usi...

Re: T400s pricing in UK...

Had a look on the Provantage site and there are two T400s models listed on the main screen when searching for T400s: 2815-2ZU $2100 Warranty UK but NOT Japan. 2808-C4U $1428 Warranty UK and also Japan. This is why you always have to check the model number on the warranty web site as at first glance ...

Re: T400s pricing in UK...

I'll pass on 1) although I'd be interested to know the answer to this one myself. For 2) you should be able to get away with adapters in Japan as the power supply brick is usually multi voltage. Rather than adapters purchase a new plug line cord which fits into the brick. Much better than carrying a...

Here's a link to the warranty page. Click on International warranty service and this should take you to a page where you can enter the machine type, e.g. 4062 for a W500 as listed in the July TABook. This particular machine type has warranty in the UK. You need to check this for the particular machi...

Re: T400s pricing in UK...

From Bill Morrow, who runs this site. I'm not sure if Bill still sells thinkpads these days. If not then there are certainly US retailers who will ship to the UK. You may not be able to purchase a CTO (configure To Order) system but you should be able to get one of the TA Book models which you can t...

Re: T400s pricing in UK...

As far as I'm aware there is no import duty on laptops imported from the USA to the UK. There is of course VAT (a misnomer if ever there was one) and all of the 'normal' handling charges by the shipper. I purchased and imported a T41P, which I'm using to type this post, back in March 2004. It came w...

Re: Frustration with specifying a T400 to buy in UK...

I think the fact that they are focusing on the consumer market as well , is a good thing. Gone are the days when laptops were exotic, expensive, business only machines. Anyone can pop into PC World or even Tesco's and buy a cheap laptop. If Lenovo want to be in the Laptop game, and thats where sales...

I'd be interested to know what you find available retail in the UK. I have a Thinkpad T41P which is really getting on a bit now but still perfectly usable for most things. I need to start looking at 64bit apps so this may force me into purchasing a newer TP, probably a T500 or W500. Purchasing from ...
