Re: No Windows Update for Windows 95/98/98SE/ME/2000

To follow up on the SP4 rollup containing POS updates, I never could get it to install without corrupting the XP installation. Some of the POS updates require the SSE2 instruction set which leaves the T23 out since it is Pentium 3. Still, working with the A31 Pentium 4, the rollup just didn't work f...

Re: No Windows Update for Windows 95/98/98SE/ME/2000

The documentation I have lists contents as shown below. Windows XP SP4 Final includes all Windows XP updates and many updated components with all their latest updates up to including January 2016 (some POSReady updates have been included). Included components are: .NET Frameworks 1.0, 1.1, 2.0, 3.0,...

Re: No Windows Update for Windows 95/98/98SE/ME/2000

I have done a bit more with WSUS and found that my troubles were a combination of unfamiliarity with WSUS and a bug in the routine. MKISOFS.EXE is used by WSUS to create an ISO. It is not part of the program and must be downloaded. The download fails even though the link in WSUS appears to be correc...

Re: No Windows Update for Windows 95/98/98SE/ME/2000

WSUS looked promising so I gave it a try. The computer was a Thinkpad A31 with a wiped hard drive. Windows XP SP3 was clean installed and three drivers updated to produce a clean Device Manager display. Then WSUS 9.2.1 was started and I requested it to produce an ISO upon completion. Throughout the ...

You can download DVD Express here: www.metzomagic.com/Help/download/DVDExpress.zip This is not a Thinkpad =specific version but it runs on my T23. You can convert it to the version intended for the T23 by clicking on Drivers at the top of this forum and navigating to the T23 drivers page. Under the ...

I did check it, the thing does supply DC so it's probably the sensing/configuration resistor.
Did you measure the resistance from the sense pin to ground? I don't have a 135W power supply but my 170W supply measures 1900 Ohms from the sense pin to ground.

There have been several threads about this on the forum over the years. This one is quite good: viewtopic.php?p=218045#p218045

Without the hassle of trying to rewrite the EEPROM, replacing the system board is the only option.

Re: T43 Unknown Device :(

Many many versions of Power Manager have been released over the years. Some releases fail to install or fail to function on some Thinkpads. The older the Thinkpad, the more likely there will be issues. For the T43, it is so old that the docs are not maintained or checked for accuracy. Finally Lenovo...

Re: T43 Unknown Device :(

I installed XP on my T43 this past summer. This was from recovery disks, not a retail or oem XP disk. There are no unknown devices in device manager but I did do some manual driver updates. Lenovo's advice on their power manager driver version is not helpful for the T43. The latest XP power manager ...

Perfect. Don't need or want "like" feature. Been on a few cigars and whisky forums with this and it's nothing more than an popularity contest. Re: T23 - Battery Options?

Problem is the original batteries are OLD. Lithium batteries age, even if you don't use them. I simply ordered a new one off eBay, and that has been running fine. Generalizations like this are sometimes wrong. I have a Panasonic battery for my T23 that is close to original capacity after more than ...

Re: Windows update not working after re-install

Out of curiosity I nuked Windows 7 on my T43 (1872-4AU) and installed XP SP2 from recovery discs. Wireless WPA2 security is not supported in SP2 but is in SP3. Download SP3 from https://www.catalog.update.microsoft.com/Search.aspx?q=%28KB936929%29. You need to get Internet Explorer 8 next to get Win...

Re: Windows update not working after re-install

The WSUS history file says:
Version 9.2.1 -- 05.05.14
- NOTE: This version will be the very very last one supporting Windows XP and Office 2003

Have you used a WSUS version newer than 9.2.1 to update Windows XP? Does version 9.2.1 work to update XP now, more than 5 years after its release?

Re: I need a T500 driver for Lenovo PM

Here is the list of recent Power Manager releases. As you can see there is a revision number in addition to the Build ID. For 1.67.14.04 there are three different build ID's and five revisions, at least for n20ku09w. So of the ten variations of 1.67.14.04, which one do you want? Note that there are ...

Re: T21 won't power on

I've read that the ADP3421 current sense circuitry drifts and ultimately prevents the computer from powering up. When you are at the end of the road and nothing has revived the computer, try shorting pin 27 to pin 28 of the ADP3421. That should disable the current sense circuitry in the chip. The da...
