What OS are you running on this ThinkPad (T61?)? Is it OS X or just an OS X theme on Win XP? Can you provide some information on it? Thanks.

Is it possible to get a replacement Windows COA sticker?
I have a R61 and the Windows Vista Business Certificate of Authenticity (COA) on the bottom is torn all the way down the middle so now there's two halves stuck to the base. And it's curling up and worn out. Is there any way to get a new or replacement COA sticker for my R61? There's a marketing numb...

Also keep in mind that the Matshita/Panasonic drives are almost impossible to flash to region free status..not the case with the Hitachi/LG unit . I only had a vague idea of what this meant and how it would impact me as an average user, so I googled for more information. Anyways, for those who are ...

I have the same thing on my 14.1" R61. There is a slight bulge in the middle of the top cover. I can see the unevenness if I look at the top cover at eye level. And I can definitely feel it when I run my hand across the top. When I press on this part I can feel the roll cage underneath. I've also ex...

Optical drives: HLDS vs PCC. Is one better than the other?
I'm looking to upgrade the optical drive on my R61. I see that the Systems service parts list shows two manufacturers for these drives: HLDS (Hitachi-LG) and PCC (Matshita/Panasonic). Is one better than the other, HLDS vs PCC, in terms of 1) reliability, 2) operation, 3) noise (lack thereof), and 4)...

How do you transfer ownership of a used ThinkPad?
How do you transfer ownership of a ThinkPad if it was purchased used on eBay? Is there a process for registering it under your name as the new owner or is this not necessary? The laptop, an R61, has three years EZServe limited warranty. The warranty is attached to the machine itself and not the name...

I saw a couple of 15.4" wide T61s and R61s, and compared to my 15" T42 and 14" T60, they feel big, plasticky, clumsy, and basically look as if somebody carved them with a hatchet. Even the Lenovo 3000 N100 looks nicer in comparison. The 14" (regular and wide) models still look and feel alright. c) ...

I think that when people talk about wanting more and exciting screen options on their ThinkPads, they are talking about different display technology . "Glossy" isn't a different LCD technology, it's simply a different coating on the front of the screen. It might help a tad with viewing angles (mayb...

Glossy screens coming to T6x? Why not, already on R61i 15.4&
This is very exciting, I think. With so many devoted ThinkPad fans and users regularly wishing that Lenovo would improve on the display screens and possibly introduce a glossy screen option. Well, it's here (or coming soon?). Maybe I'm not telling you anything you already didn't know, but I saw a gl...

Name of software that shows battery discharge/charge cycles?
Hello, Not too long ago I remember reading about a software program/diagnostic utility that you can use to find out how many discharge/charge cycles a notebook battery has. I'm looking for the name or link for that program. I think I saw this program mentioned in a review of an X6x or T6x but I can'...

Rip contents of CD onto HD and run it from there-possible?
This is a dumb question because I'm really not familiar with ripping CDs or DVDs and how that all works. But here goes... Is it possible to rip or copy the contents of a CD-ROM onto the hard drive (or flash drive) and run it from there? For example, I have CD-ROM discs that came with IT certificatio...

Z61t Desktop Icons Arrangements (pic)
Hello All, I was wondering whether all or only some Z61t notebooks have that weird, out of sorts looking arrangement of the desktop icons (under Win XP, for instance). You know, where the icons are small, spaced farther apart than normal and the descriptions under each icon doesn't have normal word ...

Hello, I think you will find it interesting and informative to read the Tabook as it lists detailed specifications of the more current Thinkpad models. Tabook does not list the T42p 14.1" SXGA+ model but it does list the T43p 14.1" SXGA+ as having a display brightness of 150 nits. So I think the T42...

Is there such a thing as an optical bay cover or dummy?
Hello all,
Does anyone know if there's a cover for the ultrabay if you remove the optical drive on a T6x? Is there such a thing as a dummy optical drive, or is it just simpler to buy an Ultrabay Slim hard drive adapter and stick that in as cover?
Thanks so much.

Questions about ordering X61s, components, accessories, etc.
Hello, I'm looking into buying a X61s and i have a couple of questions: 1) If i don't get the X6 UltraBase but instead get an external USB optical drive, such as the ThinkPlus USB 2.0 CD-RW/DVD-ROM Combo drive, can i boot from this external drive (for OS installation and so forth)? Do you simply set...

7200rpm or 5400rpm HD as an upgrade for a T22? Any thoughts?
Hello, I'm trying to decide between a 5400rpm hard drive and a 7200rpm hard drive as an upgrade for my T22. I don't need a lot of storage space--60GB to 80GB would be plenty for my needs--but would prefer a fast and reliable drive though. I normally use the laptop for general purposes (web surfing, ...
