Re: PATA only on main bay - R51

Hi... I spent extra money on a PATA 7200rpm and it runs very quick. If your looking for an increase in performance this is one item you can upgrade. Normally most r51's will have the slower 5400rpm drive unless you pick up a unit that was ordered with the 7200rpm drive (upgrade). SATA is the newer ...

There are 5mm high 1.8" HDDs that could fit in the DVD bay (like the 80GB samsung one used in the MacBook Air) Which models are used in the X300, the Macbook Air and the SONY TZ 64GB SSD's? Which has better specs and is faster? I am assuming the SONY is slower and with a PATA interface and that the...

Czech Keyboard image?

Could someone please post an image (or link) of their czech layout thinkpad keyboard? My girlfriend is czech and I will be moving there next Autumn so will most likely get a native thinkpad(!) since she can then use it as well and I will be able to when I have learnt enough czech. Trouble is my czec...

hello, thanks for the review.

I see you also have X series laptops, how do they compare in general (your personal preferences etc) and how do the physical vertical screenheights compare? I don't like widescreen but if it isn't too short in comparison then it isn't so bad as it could be.

I doubt they have the same watt-hours, different tech or not. Isn't it something like 40(3-cell Li-Pol) vs 70(6-cell Li-Ion)? Or, if those numbers are totally wrong, then at least something near a 4:7 ratio? (perhaps indicating that Li-Pol tech is slightly denser in energy, but I don't know their in...

But it should offer the option for a non-SSD HD, so yes it should be cheaper than the X300, which is only available with the expensive SSD HD. the X300 will eventually be available with a 120GB 5400RPM 1.8" hard drive and a lower price to match. any idea how that might compare, given the slow proce...

Re: What's the real story in widescreen real estate?

What are the dimensional differences between 13.3 widescreen (hieght/width) versus the 4:3 version? Is the width of the 13.3 widescreen about the same as the width of a 14.1 4:3 screen? That was my next question, as it's not really width I care so much about, it's width at the expense of height, so...

Re: 4:3

IMHO if the 4:3 form factor would be used, the border left and right of the keyboard could be shrinked (propabla also for the widescreen version), and there could be more room to the the front for the touchpad. I don't think there are any logical reasons for widescreen apart from screen dema...

thank you gator. it's interesting (and pleasing) that they're finally catching up with led technology (i.e. different colours for different indications, and the supposedly brighter thinklight). a pity they aren't still on the screen though, which made more sense to me, but this is minor.

(this isn't meant to be rhetorical) and to g...

nonny, the thing that worries me slightly is the processor which I had believed previously to be 2ghz, would you be able to compare it to a 1.5ghz centrino (of my R51; 1.3GB ram, probably about 2kb cache on the processor etc...) in real world performance? I would hope it's better as it would replace...

Actually, the shuffle is £32 at the U.K. online Apple store. Google tells me that's 62 USD. (Apple Canada has them for equivalent of 54 USD). Oh yeah, a quick look tells me he was probably mixing up 1 and 2GB versions. it looks more like a 20% premium we pay. --- Do not lenovo customers in the US a...

That's good to hear (I'm also sadistically pleased by the fact that the air has a relatively rubbish drive). I presume the main honeytrap for the thinkpad designers was the data security in ssd having moving parts. I too am very disappointed by the reports on battery life though, and since I don't n...

I know this is a can of worms, but, how does it compare to the benchmarks for the mac air ssd posted elsewhere online? I'm not sure how to interpret these tests as I know little about the technology, but I want to know whether it's worth waiting for the supposed hdd version of the x300 or not. thanks.

But I somehow find non widescreen TPs are better looking. Agreed. I basically don't like widescreens anywhere near thinkpads but I suppose with the x300 I'd make the sacrifice (if it can be called that), unless there was an x200 as suggested. The only advantage I can see of the x300 over the curren...

jerky scrolling/smooth scrolling, no horizontal in Opera/FF

I think I have the same problem, it's been annoying the crap out of me for ages. It all seemed to work in Opera 8.54, and firefox for a while too, but not anymore.
