Re: Old member looking for new laptop

I would suggest the ThinkPad T480s. It's lighter than the ThinkPad X1 Extreme, and it's just as thin. You can configure it with discrete graphics. The advantage over the X1 Extreme is, that the T480s has the wireless antennas at the top of the display lid. German T-Mobile - at that time still called...

The vulnerabilities were discovered by several co-operating parties, one of them being a team from the Graz University of Technology. Here is a photo of the guys:

Re: Lenovo CES 2018

I looked into this long ago, before i bought my T61. If i understood what i read then correctly, it's like this: if you have one 16 GB module, and add an 8 GB module, Intel chipsets are able to operate 8 GB of the 16 GB module and the 8 GB module in dual channel mode. The other 8 GB of the 16 GB mod...

Among crippled mobile OSes, Windows Phone/Mobile supports true multitasking only. Sailfish OS on the Jolla phone also supports multitasking: https://jolla.com/jolla/ The only problems are that - you can't buy one at the moment, the shop is out of stock - should these phones become available again, ...

Another thing is that there is no message like "Resuming from hibernation" so I do not know if it works. Re: Are new cheap laptops really that bad?

I looked at some basic HP laptops today. $400 for an AMD something, 4gb ram, 500GB hard drive. Terrible. Laggy running windows 10. Depends on what the computer was doing at the time. If it's installing monthly updates to the operating system, most computers will act sluggishly. What am I missing he...

Re: "LSE is present and enabled" -- how to get rid of it?

Hallo, ThinkPad T420s models are not supported by the Lenovo LSE disabler tool. Users who install and run the Lenovo LSE disabler tool on unsupported hardware should not expect the program to render meaningful output. In such cases, erroneous and confusing output should be expected. I doubt that any...

Re: Anyone Know about AccuType Keyboards on Different Lines?

If the ThinkPad no longer uses the AccuType keyboard, do you know when it was changed? I don't think that Lenovo ever put AccuType keyboards in ThinkPads. I suppose the confusion was caused by the editor of the PC World article, Ms. Pinola, who seems to have thought that Lenovo was going to use Acc...

Re: Anyone Know about AccuType Keyboards on Different Lines?

Hello, all i can say is, that Lenovo doesn't call the keyboards on recent ThinkPads AccuType. AccuType keyboards can be found in Lenovo's Essential line of notebooks and in IdeaPads. I suppose the reason why Lenovo doesn't call the ThinkPad keyboards AccuType, is that current ThinkPad keyboards prob...

replacement panel for 14.1" T61

Dear forum members, the backlight in the display panel of my 14.1" T61 went out. It's a Samsung XGA panel: LTN141XA-L01. I hoped that a TMD panel might be better than the Samsung, and searched ebay for the part number from the HMM: 42T0367. Found a seller who promised the panel is for a T61. The eba...

Re: Can power cord cause AC adapter to fail?

The 6ft cord Apple TV card has printed on the plug that it's rated for 10A and 125V (even though the Amazon ad says 7A). If that's printed on the plug that goes into the wall socket, it might be a rating for that plug only and not for the entire cable. There might be different numbers on the connec...

Re: Can power cord cause AC adapter to fail?

Does this look better: http://www.sfcable.com/P-ZIP-06-EN.html? At least it says IEC60320 C7. That's more than one could say about the power cord you have now. An Apple TV has a 6 W power supply. Your ThinkPad has a 65 W power supply. I'm not surprised that a connector, that was designed to deliver...

Re: Can power cord cause AC adapter to fail?

I wouldn't use the 6 feet power cord for a ThinkPad AC adapter. The reasons: 1. The ThinkPad user's guide says: Only use power cords recommended by Lenovo. 2. Amazon specifies the power cord to be used with an Apple TV. There is no guarantee that Apple's connectors adhere to IEC 60320. Apple often d...

First off, I usually switch hard drives on running machines in my house. I'm not surprised you have problems. A T410 doesn't have exactly the same hardware as a T61. Therefore, you shouldn't use the same drivers for both machines. But that is what you are doing, if you switch the HDD containing the...

What pressure can you expose it to, and what can you not? The answer is in the user guide. It says: "Do not pack your computer in a tightly packed suitcase or bag." And that goes for backpacks too. To the question whether it can be used as a cushion when sleeping at the airport: if i were in a publ...

Re: Intel Dual Band Wireless AC vs AN. What's the point of A

I'd beg to differ since I've seen 450Mbps with Atheros 9380 and only two antennae more than once. The Atheros 9380 uses three spatial streams. I suppose that the card's third connector - the one, to which no antenna is connected - might still work as a transmitter, even if no antenna is connected. ...

Re: Intel Dual Band Wireless AC vs AN. What's the point of A

Question: Has any of you been able to get over 300Mbps using 7260AC on a *non-AC* dual-band router? I don't think anyone could hope for getting more than 300 Mbps throughput with an 7260AC card in a non-802.11ac network. The 7260AC card uses a maximum of two spatial streams per direction. With 802....

From what i understand, and as long as both cards cost the same, there is no point in getting the 7260AN card. The Dual Band 7260AC should be able to do all the 7260AN card can do plus IEEE 802.11ac.

I suppose you must be mistaken. The Dual Band 7260AC card is specified to be able to do IEEE 802.11 abgn. That means it can do 802.11a and most probably 802.11n in the 5 GHz band too.
