I like the idea. I guess without a hard drive, it is not a full computer, thus it is not obligated to the age-old Microsoft treaty - "every computer must ship with an OS on it." I will pick my own hard disk from newegg. So Lenovo can skip both the stingy hard drive and Microsoft tax. I think a lot o...

Lenovo, please offer Linux/PC-DOS on X series.
Lenovo is still not doing it right with their Linux initiative. 1) X series don't offer Linux as an option. They still force people to pay $50-$100 for the crappy, slow, buggy, stupid, bloated Vista. Fine, just ship the Thinkpad with PC-DOS. I will install it myself. 2) The Linux version of T61 has ...

Get the Vantec SATA/IDE to USB 2.0 Adapter for $20. You can then turn any bare 5.25 inch DVD drive, whether it is IDE or SATA, into a USB drive.
After you are done, return the DVD drive back to your desktop.

In May, Intel will release the second generation Penryn CPUs, which include the power optimized "P" processors with 25W TDP, vs. the current "T" processors with 35W TDP. The upcoming Thinkpad X200 is likely to have the P8400 and P8600 CPU, as well as a 1280x800 wide screen. If you want a quiet lapto...

Vantec makes a SATA/IDE to USB 2.0 Adapter for $20. I use it to connect to bare IDE/SATA 2.5, 3.5, and 5.25 inch drives.
I don't have X61, so I don't know whether X61 will boot from it. I guess it should boot from any USB device, right?

The consensus is that X200 will be a 12" ultra portable without an optical drive, which is exactly what I need. I want it light, small, fast, comes with a DVI port, 1280x800 LED screen, and a webcam.
mod edit: No pics without a warning please.

Lenovo's new Linux program is doomed to fail, again.

Well, I can get a T61 with Vista for a lot less than $1250. This explains why Thinkpad's previous attempt of bundling with Linux failed. Who in his right m...
