Re: Considering getting a W520. Should I get RAID?

I spotted this link for the 6Gbps SATAIII mSATA drive: http://www.runcore.com/en/RC-SSDProductShow-173.html thinking about getting one myself. I too would say folks may consider giving software RAID a try for your D: drive, simply using Windows 7 x64 built in RAID0 function to stripe the data: http:...

14 months later, now on Windows 7 x64, same issue still remains fyi. And using the very latest W700 ThinkVantage drivers and software.

Re: Extremely Fast W700 Drive Configuration "Cookbook"

It appears the best way to go, for those using SSDs drive(s) for boot and/or data, is AHCI mode, for these reasons: http://www.anandtech.com/storage/showdoc.aspx?i=3667&p=3&cp=12 So until Intel comes out with a RAID driver that supports TRIM, it would appear AHCI with software RAID0 is best for now....

SPDIF sound on W700 dock, onscreen display goes on often

This is really a minor nit, I realize. When using my W700 with SPDIF output for audio (in docking station), the onscreen display volume indicator comes up for a few seconds. This happens every time the system makes a noise (like the small click when you browse with IE). The workaround is to a) turn-...

Re: RAID 5 possible on W700 with 3 HDDs?

I had tried RAID0 with one of the internal bays combined with an identical drive in the Ultrabay, and the integrated Intel RAID controller on the W700 wouldn't let me, saying something to the effect that one of the bays is external. So I would guess that RAID5 also wouldn't not be allowed. But that ...

Except for the part that it's got a Lenovo logo on the top cover and is still missing Flexview (at least give us the option to put that in ourselves!). It's a gutted T60p. One remark to using 7200 rpm drives for the RAID 0: If you compare the performance charts of a 320GB WD Scorpio Black (7200 RPM) to the Scorpio Blue model (500GB, 5400 RPM), they turn out to be almost identical. This is because a 500GB HDD has a much higher data density, which compensates the highe...

I wonder if the 4GB turbo card and the Lenovo provided driver will allow pinning of applications (T61p and its turbo a year ago clearly don't). http://www.intel.com/design/flash/nand/turbomemory/index.htm Getting tough to find Intel Mini-PCI 4GB turbo cards aftermarket for some reason, about $85 USD...

So QFoam, the question on the mind of those who already have W700s, how difficult is the surgery to add one of these new display assemblies after manufacture (looking at Hardware Maintenance Manual, doesn't appear too bad), and would it be remotely affordable. You can go external USB 2.0, but speed will be about 30-80% slower than the latest eSATA enclosures: depending on your planned usage, that may not matter to you. Easiest is a ExpressCard that slides into the slot at the side of your W500, with an eSATA capable external hard drive enclosure. More cha...

Saberx, something to consider. If you're able to put an Intel 80GB solid state drive into your IPS equipped laptop, you'll be booting/working dramatically faster too, somewhat affordably ($650ish). But you'd need to fill that UltraBay with a big HDD for D: drive too, since I suspect 80GB is too sma...

Ok, great, glad the procedure worked! Cloning drive to drive in Acronis probably would have been a bit faster, but I like the simplicity of your approach. Now, drumroll please, eager to see what kind of speed you get with "ATTO Disk Benchmark" (see previous page of same thread for download details)....
