Re: What is the 14 inch, and 15.x inch sibling of x230?

The first answer you got is pretty good. The t430 is the 14" variant of the x230. The t440 is then the equivelant to the x240, t450/x250, etc. I am not sure of what you mean with "safe". In terms of your needs, warranty, etc? For my heavy office use, I cannot see why I would need a newer laptop than...

Re: Thoughts on the x240?

I hope that I am not sticking my hand into a can of worms here ;-) but I see the x240 as very much an incremental upgrade to the x230. Obviously it does depend on your need, but from my perspective with an x230, it doesn't really offer that much extra. Small conveniences, yes. But then again, OP had...

Re: CPU choice for T440p

Ah, yeah, so do I as well. I run TPfancontrol on max when I'm playing CS:GO on the i7-3520m on my x230, which is around 5400rpm. The external fan then takes it down another 15C down.

Re: CPU choice for T440p

Maybe something like this will help on throttling? I use it to get the CPU-temp down on my x230 when playing CS:GO. It takes the temp down from high 80's to low 70's. It does make some noise, but I have headphones on when playing: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01MDVEP10/ref=pe_3187911_189395841_TE_dp_1

Re: Is Chinese battery bad?

You'll get a cheap battery which will hopefully outlast your x230 :-) If mine holds a year with better charge than what my original battery came down to, I will be happy :-) Only down-side is that after the first low-battery warning, it just shuts down after some time. So I need to remember to plug ...

Re: X230 Fan Noise Windows 10

If it's the first time you're opening up the machine, the fan is probably somewhat worn anyway.
Ie just change the fan when you're doing it anyway. Otherwise you may have to open it up again and replace the fan :-)

Re: what x series should I go with?

I guess it depends on how much you want to spend, and any other requirements you may have. Besides modern games, there isn't much my x230 with an i7-3520m, 16gb ram and a Samsung 850 Pro SSD can't do. I cannot comment on the sound level of the x220, but it is plenty high on my x230. The 2 levels of ...

I'll check the FPS later, but there are no problems. It's absolutely smooth. The only exception is when going direcly through a smoke grenade.

Re: Not seeing a huge benefit in performance in x260's vs x230's, etc

Yeah, it does look a bit like the x230 was the last proper Thinkpad. My i7-3520M with an 180GB Intel 520 and 16GB Ram has plenty of horse power for my heavy office use. A cleaning of the CPU fan and exchange of the thermal pad to some propoer arctic MX4 cooling paste bought the idle temp down 15C, a...

Re: Intermittent shutdowns...suspect old battery PLS HELP GUYS

Have you tried reinstalling windows (for example from another disk/partition, if you don't want to format completely) to see if it could just be a software problem? I had somewhat the same issues with my x230. It wouldn't sleep/hibernater properly sometimes. The power buttom would just blink, and th...

Replacement battery for x230 - genuine neccessary?

I am looking into replacing my batteries for my x230, as both my 9-cell and 4-cell only hold charge for a very short time. Is it still an issue with the authentication chip, or has there been a work-around? An apparently genuine 9-cell battery which has the x230 9-cell FRU (0A36307) is 66$: http://w...

Also, you can try to adjusting max CPU usage and fan speed, as I've described here:

Re: X240 fan running more frequently after ssd upgrade

The only thing I can think of then, is to check the CPU-temp. If it does indeed heat up, then check CPU-utilization with some monitor programme. The SSD should definately draw less power and heat up less, than your old HDD, so it probably is some Win 10 task draining the CPU.

Re: X240 fan running more frequently after ssd upgrade

Have you checked their respective temp's with Tpfancontrol? Maybe you can find some correlation. http://www.staff.uni-marburg.de/~schmitzr/donate.html (The download is at the bottom of the page). On my X230, it only shows CPU-temp, so I guess that would also be the case for the X240. (On my old x32 ...
