Re: Ubuntu 9.10 volume buttons dont work???
Aren't new operating systems just "The Bee's Knees"? Maybe this will help a little. http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/Thinkpad-acpi I don't run Ubuntu or have a T60, but I will not be the least surprised if I do not encounter similar problems when I upgrade Mandriva and Fedora next month with the...

Re: Which distro for T4x series?
Mint 7 sounds interesting. I wish they were a bit more up to date as I'm a bit picky that way. Not that it's a major benefit but if I can use Ubuntu repos, I can try the newer most up-to-date software? My opinion is that yeah, Ubuntu is cutting edge. But that can sometimes cause problems. Where Min...

Re: Linux Mint 7 Gloria now out in 64-bit version
Harry Right click network icon lower right. click on wireless and then click on your network. Then click on edit. And at the bottom of that page check box that says allow all users. And log out or shut down. And it shouldn't ask for the keyring pass anymore. And should connect up. I'm not on my R61 ...

Re: Linux Mint 7 Gloria now out in 64-bit version
I recently install Mint 7 32 bit on my R61. And I am impressed ! Everything just worked. The only slight problem I encountered was the keyring pass on boot for wireless. But a quick Google fixed that. I'm running Gnome desktop. Because I just haven't really taking a liken to KDE4 yet. I would say th...

Harry
I haven't seen anything jump out at me yet.
I know at one time they had a bad rep with spy ware.
But like I mentioned I don't have a lot of run time with it.

Thanks for the update
I thought I would mention for other users that you need to disable IPV6 .
Usually that is just a given

WeatherBug for linux
I'm just wondering has anyone tried weatherBug? If so what are your thoughts? I installed it on my R61 running Suse 11.1 and it was an easy install and the weatherBug widget is pretty nice and doesn't seem to be a big resource hog. But to be honest I haven't been running it that long. Only a few day...

Re: Installing Mepis to Thinkpad T500 model 2243-4EG.
Read this guideline here. It should give you a good idea what you need to do.
But just be sure you don't format the hidden or windows partition. I would think Mepis would see them.
But be careful!!

Re: is there any SIMPLE fan control program to stop the noise?
The fan in my R61 doesn't hardly run. Temp hangs 39/40 Celsius Do you know if the fan issue is just in Ubuntu ? Do you have all the modules for acpi installed? If you go to a Konsole and type acpi -V That command should post the temps you are running. Also have you tried other distro's with a liveCD...

Re: What Disto X61s w/ Intel 4965agn Wireless
Harry It looks like PCLOS is getting ready to do a major update next weekend. http://www.pclinuxos.com/forum/index.php?topic=52923.0 On post # 22 in that link it states......because I rebuilt the entire wireless stack on the new kernel to support the newest cards. Except for the kernel we would have...

Re: What Disto X61s w/ Intel 4965agn Wireless
Harry
I take it Mint doesn't play well with the Intel wireless either.
I know you posted a link in another thread for compiling a driver.
But have you looked at this page?
http://linuxwireless.org/en/users/Download
Might be time for some live CD tests.
I posted in your Suse thread .

Harry Just wondering are you running 32bit or 64bit. Maybe try these links. Have you read this post on Suse forums? Re: X61s Slow Downloads- 4965AGN Wireless, Fedora Core 10
Harry I had a slow down issue in Mandriva KDE4. I installed Suse 11.1 Gnome and it seems to working fine. I installed this on my R61 which I use as my Linux Lappy. And as far as I can tell everything works. Including wireless out of the box except for configuring. I have been running it for about a ...

You could download it and run the live CD. And see how it matches up to your hardware. Also I think PCLOS 2007 might be a good candidate for that laptop. It's simple and just works. But is only KDE 3.59 And it is a live CD also. Mandriva 2009 might be worth a try. It has KDE4. I'm running it on my R...

I was running Mandriva Srpring 2008 on my R61e with very little problems. "Intel Chipsets" The other day I downloaded 2009 KDE4. The install was fairly easy with no problems. With a few clicks I had wireless up and running . And 3d effects worked when I enabled them. I still prefer KDE 3.59 over Kde...

Here is 2 gig for a good price.
I bought some for my Z61 and it worked great.

Then I ended up selling the Z61. Probably setting under the persons tree right now.
Kind of wished I would have kept it.

I agree with the others. It would help if we had a product number. Then that way you would know exactly what you was comparing. I have a R51 and a R61e and I prefer the wide screen of the R61e. Personally I like the Intel chipset. It's fine for what I use it for. Internet/email Also like the Z61alot...
