Hello- I've got a Nitrocaster board that I'd like to install in an X230. Does anyone out there do this professionally? Thanks.

Re: Is it possible to read 5.25" floppy discs with a 770?
Interesting. I had suspected that a 5.25 inch external drive w/a parallel port connector might work, although was wondering if the BIOS would read 5.25 inch discs. I had Googled around and found no reference to external 5.25 inch drives being accessed from 770 laptops, and IBM only made (?) 3.5" ext...

Roger on that. What I'd suspected. Was looking for an excuse to keep a nice 770 that I'm getting ready to sell.

Is it possible to read 5.25" floppy discs with a 770?
Does anyone here know if it is possible to read 5-1/4 inch floppy discs using a 770 with an external 5-1/4 inch drive? I ask this because I've got a 770 which I am considering selling, that I would keep if only I had a tangible purpose for it. Periodically people at work bring me 5-1/4 inch floppies...

Glue for crack in T430 lid?
I've got a T430 lid with a minor crack (approx 1-1/2 inches in length) on one side. Lid appears to be ABS plastic. Any one have success with using ABS cement on such TP components? If not, the fallback adhesive will be epoxy based, or possibly black Dow 5200 marine adhesive. Thanks in advance.

Wow. Holy crow. Cowabunga. This is the OP. I've got a T430 with a cracked lid and was googling around for gluing options. Now here I am, back at a thread I started 10 years ago with the same problem. Curiously, I am getting ready to put the T20 that I glued with JBWeld in 2010, (ten years ago) on Eb...

Thank you. I think this is an underused solution to increase vertical space.RealBlackStuff wrote: ↑Fri Sep 06, 2019 4:50 amYou can improve a bit on a 16:9 screen if you move the taskbar vertical, to the side.

Bad LCD ribbon?
Broke a hinge the other day on my T61. After replacing it, I fired the laptop up no problem, logged in, pressed the top of the screen slightly to adjust the angle of the laptop monitor and suddenly the whole screen went to a dim blue. Rebooted and rather than seeing the bios start-up, screen was dar...

Re: 3d printing a Frankenpad, (Warning: small image)
Roger on the rigidity concerns. Might need to be a taller profile with added material to account for this. Final machine will likely not be confused w/a stock unit. This is an idea that has been bubbling up in my monkey brain for several years now. Other details like bios in a modern motherboard not...

3d printing a Frankenpad, (Warning: small image)
Checking around on www.yeggi.com, www.makexyz.com, etc. I see a lot of 3d printing projects to create a variety of replacement parts as well as minor external mods for Thinkpads. I have been wondering about the possibility of 3d printing a base and midboard, (Figure 1) http://u.cubeupload.com/portsa...

Re: Looking to get a "new" Thinkpad
Good luck to your friend on his search. I don't think I'm going back to the Dell Inspiron line that I used to use before Thinkpads either - the mod culture is so strong (esp in Asia) that I don't think I'll have to even try too hard to get myself a 51nb 8th gen computer. Hoping 51nb will revisit th...

Here is a link to a project on Indestructables.com where a Raspberry Pi Zero (RP) is wired into a TP420 ultrabay. The RP uses TP power and is accessed from the Thinkpad (running Win or Linux) via a VNC session. https://www.instructables.com/id/Re-purpose-Optical-Drive-With-RPi/ Too bad the TP periph...

Re: Ludicrious idea w/ X61T
Aside from a full fledged vacuum chamber, most cabinetry shops, surfboard shops, etc that do a significant amount of laminate work have vacuum bag setups. The tabletop, (or surfboard) has the veneer glued onto it and then while the glue is uncured, the object is put into a large, sturdy plastic bag ...

Re: Question: Same heatsink/fan in T61 units regardles of GPU?
Oh really! I just swapped an nVidia heat sink unit onto a board w/an Intel GPU with no complications. Used acetone to nicely clean the copper on the heat sink contact areas...did not have the nerve to use it on the microprocessors. Isopropyl worked there. Amazed at how dusty and dirty the innards of...

Overheating while compiling an Android ROM
Hey all- I've got a T61 with an X9000 processor that I used to (partially) compile an Android ROM from source with this evening. I got about 25% of the way through the job, (2 hours) and noticed that the temperature was holding between 96 and 100 degrees C. I shut the process down shortly thereafter...

Re: T60/61 dis/assembly ...
One "trick" is to have a couple rare earth magnets around during disassembly to help keep screws organized and to aid in removal. I use one to pull out screws that have been completely unscrewed, but are still sitting in their recesses. Having a couple taped down for use as screw repositories will k...

Won't break my heart seeing TPs find a new manufacturer. It is fun to think about IBM picking up the brand again and watching TPs take over the ISS again. Maybe Intel will pick up the brand? If Intel is going into the drone market, why not laptops?

Good luck w/this. I spent way too much time trying to do this w/an X61 a few months ago. Finally kludged it by installing 32-bit WinXP then using the DOS exe.

Good luck w/your "next generation" T6x Thinkpad. I've been using one of these w/the standard 14.1" screen as my daily driver for about 10-yrs. Major problems have been one w/an Nvidia graphics chip a few years back and having the right side hinge break every year or two. Neither of these should be a...

I am interested in booting my newly acquired X61 tablet from an SD card. I can see the card (I've put a Linux OS on it) when booting from the hard drive, But can't get the BIOS to boot from the card. I have not updated the BIOS: it is 1.20 (7SET34WW), 7/29/2008. Thoughts on this? Would Middleton BIO...
