Re: t420s: i5 or i7?
I am thinking about the t420s and was wondering if I should go with the i5 or the i7. The price is not the problem here. I just want the one that will perform better. I will be having a SSD drive and plan on going with the 16G ram. What are your thoughts on this? The i7 will perform better, but unl...

Computers still and will pretty much always have northbridges. The next big thing is on die northbridges. I think AMD is shooting to be the first one to do it when they go to AM4, but we will see.MartinBrice wrote:ah.

That's the northbridge and it can. They are also designed to take a lot of heat (a lot like GPUs).

Re: Where to buy thermal pad for T400 (2767-CP6) heat-sink?
I cleaned it with alcohol, but that removed a tiny amount of the material itself. To make up for it, I applied a very thin layer of Arctic Silver to the component. While I don't usually mix thermal products, I figured that in this case it probably wouldn't hurt it. Put everything back together and ...

My experience comes down to this: There are certainly better looking TN panels I have seen on other laptops (like Apple's), but it's not the worst I have seen either. I don't have any problems with it.

Re: Where to buy thermal pad for T400 (2767-CP6) heat-sink?
How about a coffee filter? Is 70% isopropyl alcohol strong enough, I don't think they have 90% or above locally, I'd have to order it. I also have Arcticlean Purifier.... which I think is primarily alcohol. 70% is just fine, the rest is just water (as long as you don't have a dyed one). I would avo...

Try cleaning it off with some rubbing alcohol and a something that won't leave any fibers/lint behind.

Just the drive in a box. That's it. Unless you specifically buy the kit that comes with some cables and such. Intel's HD graphics can handle 1080p with no issues at all (assuming you don't have gaming in mind).

I work at the student help desk at my university. I had a student bring in a X201i that wasn't starting up and was giving a post error code. Never been jealous of a Mac owner. Until now at least.
Yeah, I know. Thinkpad screens suck anymore, we hear it constantly, we talk about it constantly. Recently though I popped over to Apple's website (My sister and dad are fans of Apple hardware) and checked out the Macbook Pro. The 15 and 17-inch models are now available with a 16:10 anti-glare screen...

I believe the only non-Intel ones they put in now are Samsung and Micron.
To find out the model installed in your laptop you can either pull the drive out or use a program like CrystalDiskInfo (my preferred method).
