x300 way too hot when running on battery
Hi all - a quick question. I've noticed that when my x300 (with XP, 6 cell battery) is running on the battery (not plugged in), it gets super-hot on the back left side, where I believe the fan unit is. I can hear the fan faintly running. When I plug the computer back in, it seems to cool down a bit....

Re: what is the deal with access connections?
You mentioned a conflict between windows wireless management and TP AC. You do know, don't you , that you have to disable windows wireless management (disable from the services control panel) in order to use Access Connections? I didn't know that, actually. I decided to uninstall Access Connections...

OK, we won't torture this subject any further. Thanks for all of your help. Much appreciated. I'll try a clean install as soon as I figure out how to do that. I'm sure there are threads on this board about it.

Re: new x300 really slow in booting up
If you take the time to do the clean install, though, will you still have the same slow-booting problem a month later, when you start getting updates, etc.? I thought that's what you said in your earlier message.

Re: new x300 really slow in booting up
Hey Marin - that didn't seem to make any difference. I timed the startup and it's 2 minutes and 40 seconds. Isn't that much slower than a new x300 is supposed to be? Any other ideas? Thanks.

Re: new x300 really slow in booting up
it's msmsgs. does that mean I have malware? what do I do about that?
in re the scheduler proxy - if I turn that off, does that mean i'm turning off all the thinkvantage stuff? I guess that's fine, as long as I can easily turn it on when I need it. thanks.

Re: new x300 really slow in booting up
Below are all the checked startup items from msconfig. Any I can uncheck? As far as applications, I have all the Lenovo Think Vantage stuff going, everything else that comes loaded onto the computer, and then MS Office 2007, AVG Free (could this be a/the culprit), Adobe, Blackberry Software, and a f...

new x300 really slow in booting up
when i first got my x300, a couple of months ago, it booted up as quickly as it was supposed to - definitely under a minute. now it has suddenly become really slow - it takes several minutes. It might have something to do with my wireless, but I'm not sure. that's the last thing to load on my task b...

what is the deal with access connections?
I have an x300 running XP. ThinkVantage Access Connections and Windows Network Connections seem to have all sorts of conflicts. For one thing, AC constantly turns off the wireless radio, for no discernible reason. Then, when I'm in any new location, AC won't connect at all. It gives me a message say...

Re: x300 fan problem
thank you for your replies. I'm definitely going to take the machine in for repair and see if they can fix the problem. If they can't fix it I will probably try to return the laptop. It's way too annoying and the tp fan control sounds like an iffy solution. I'll keep you posted on what happens after...

Re: can't get proper resolution on external monitor
I don't have Vista. In XP it goes something like this: - Open Presentation director - Click on the "New..." button - On the next screen either check "Notebook LCD" or "External Device" (depending on which one you want to use). If external device, check whether it is connected via VGA or DVI. - Clic...

Could you explain more about how to do that? I found the Presentation Director feature on Vista, but I have no idea what to do with it. Thanks for your help.basketb wrote:Set up a profile with Presentation Director that is automatically applied when you dock your Thinkpad.

x300 fan problem
I have a new x300 and the fan is annoyingly loud. It kicks into high speed after 15-20 minutes of normal computer use (email, web browsing), then goes on and off every couple of minutes. When it goes on, it stays on for quite some time and is very noticeable and distracting. I've read a lot about fa...

Re: can't get proper resolution on external monitor
thanks for your response, G1tigi. I have a followup question. It seems like I don't want to use mirror mode, because I won't be able to get the best resolution out of my monitor. So I tried using the mode "extended display across notebook and monitor." I set my HP monitor as my main monitor and my l...

can't get proper resolution on external monitor
Hi. Wondering if anyone can help me. I have a new x200 with an ultrabase dock. I also have an HPw1907 monitor plugged into the dock, with a max resolution of 1440x900. I have the two monitors set on mirror mode - same image on the laptop and the ext. monitor. Here's my problem - I went to Display an...

Re: thinking of exchanging my x300, need advice
Small font sizes are my pet peeve. I assume you already adjusted the DPI (dots per inch) display setting in the control panel? The first thing I did with my X300 is increase the DPI so the text is bigger. The 96 DPI default setting in Windows is way to small for today's high resolution screens. Adj...

Re: thinking of exchanging my x300, need advice
Well, yes the X300 has 1440x900 resolution, the X200 has 1280x800 or 1440x900, so the text on a 1024x768 X61s would be larger. Yes, I understand that the text on the x61s would be larger. But I was wondering about the x200. From the numbers you posted above, it sounds like the text on the x200 (the...

Re: thinking of exchanging my x300, need advice
When you say 'docking station', are you refering to an Ultrabase? The X6X series for example uses an X6 Ultrabase. The X61s is a nice ultraportable with 1024x768 resolution and a conventional 4:3 aspect ratio. Yes, I am referring to the Ultrabase. As I understand it, this is a better way to attach ...

thinking of exchanging my x300, need advice
I just bought an x300 and am seriously considering returning it or selling it and getting a different thinkpad. I could use some advice from all you thinkpadders. Here's why I want to make a change -- I've tried the port replicator route with the x300 and it just isn't working for me. The docking so...

port replicator and volume controls
I just bought a port replicator for my new x300. I plugged my external speakers into the speaker input on the port replicator, but now the volume controls on my laptop don't work at all and I can only adjust the volume by using the knobs on the speakers themselves. Is this normal? Is there any way t...

how do you like your x300?
Hi all. I'm thinking of buying the x300. Are people generally happy with their machines? A couple of specifics -- I'm concerned about the 64GB hard drive. Do you find it big enough? Does Vista hog a lot of the space? Is there an option to get a 128GB drive on the 300? I know you can on the 301, but ...
