Re: Thinkpadders Rejoice (*LARGE PICS*)

Yes. On the tested "Cube Thinker" laptop, the lower right corner is 100 nits darker than the upper left. Reminds me the famous T440 LG vs AUO war where the uniformity was also terrible. But the 230 Euro Chuwi has better screen than T470 :) In other words no need to bash cheap chinese laptops since ...

Re: Thinkpadders Rejoice (*LARGE PICS*)

That's a budged laptop with such a screen. Sure, this particular one has [censored] RGB coverage, but not that worse than most Thinkpads... There are more of them, check Chuwi company and many others. These might a C-grade but still better than most of Lenovo ones :) And there is no display vendor ...

Re: How many of you no longer own laptops?

I wish that someday I can go on business trips carrying just an 8" phone on which I can use all of my Windows programs. Make it 8" 2560x1440, keep the bezel size to a minimum, and offer a detachable keyboard similar to the Surface keyboards except that it uses a trackpoint due to limited space -- t...

Re: How many of you no longer own laptops?

I am close to it if the Retro project fails to deliver what is expected (no 16:9). Currently I use X220, most of the time in dock and 4:3 NEC 2090UXi monitor. So if the Retro fails, my next machine will be a small self built PC, very likely AMD Ryzen based. The R51 is used as VLC "Jukebox" and X31 i...

Re: Lenovo says goodbye to the PC

If Lenovo says it doesn't care about the PC market anymore, why would they strive to maintain their already poor standards ? Why lose margins by selecting better/more expensive components and waste money in QC ? This is exactly my point. It does not mean Lenovo will stop producing PCs right now but...

Re: What computer have you had for the longest? When did you get it?

I still keep my R51 from 2004. I use it as internet radio and music player (VLC) connected to amplifier instead of old Hi-Fi CD player and FM tuner. It has surprisingly good analog audio output quality compared to X220 or new models.

Re: Thinkpadders Rejoice (*LARGE PICS*)

David Hill linked to this off Twitter so I am assuming it is fairly accurate and I am expecting a 16 x 10. The retro edition is also expected to have a taller, less wide screen that shows more top to bottom and less side to side. That helps show more of a spreadsheet than the movie screen like dime...

The vast majority of consumers are going to find the Retro Thinkpad ugly and old school.
The vast majority of consumers have no own opinion. If Lenovo pushed hard ads and other (a)social fluff about it (which won't happen, of course), they'd find it cool.

Re: Thinkpadders Rejoice (*LARGE PICS*)

not saying this is not Lenovos fault, but the key problem is that normal ThinkPads don´t target individual buyers, at all. Individual buyers are just the bonus. They target corporate. So the corporate customers specifically asked to change 7-row keyboard to 6-row one, otherwise they'll stop buying ...

As more and more content is created with widescreens in mind
Have you noticed transition from dynamic-width web design to fixed-with one ? Most of current web sites are actually widescreen unfriendly (Amazon or this phpBB forum are few excpetions only).

But now that 16:9 laptops have exceeded 1920x1080, I no longer miss 1920x1200.
The form factor still looks odd, similar to Sigma dp0 Quattro camera. Too wide without providing any benefit.
