YY may soon leave Lenovo. His decision to invest in Motorola and the IBM Server business have proven gigantic failures
Well, it is Lenovo turn to start a damage control after such (misleading ?) statement of a Lenovo representative.

Re: Lenovo says goodbye to the PC

I would say so but it indicates even more compromises and quality decline is coming anyway, quote: I am not interested in the number one or two in the classic PC market," says Group Chief Yang Yuanqing. " It has no future , we must be the number one in the new markets." He means datacenter, supercom...

The vast majority of consumers are going to find the Retro Thinkpad ugly and old school.
The vast majority of consumers have no own opinion. If Lenovo pushed hard ads and other (a)social fluff about it (which won't happen, of course), they'd find it cool.

Re: Thinkpadders Rejoice (*LARGE PICS*)

not saying this is not Lenovos fault, but the key problem is that normal ThinkPads don´t target individual buyers, at all. Individual buyers are just the bonus. They target corporate. So the corporate customers specifically asked to change 7-row keyboard to 6-row one, otherwise they'll stop buying ...

Re: Thinkpadders Rejoice (*LARGE PICS*)

No one else but Lenovo can do it, because they own this brand. Exactly ! That's why there is no reasonable reason to not make the design process transparent including some essential information like screen aspect ratio. Instead of it, Lenovo still acts like a stubborn kid. Missed opportunity to be ...

You think that David Hill didn´t want to tell the fans more? This project is his pet-project. Unfortunately, he is not the one who calls the shots on such things. I would expect he made the conditions clear before the project started. Otherwise I'd rather leave such lousy company instead of looking...

Lie, lie, blatant lie. The Classic Thinkpad was supposed to undergo a very open design process, D. Hill himself told us this.
Is there any reliable (archived) source of this statement ?

As more and more content is created with widescreens in mind
Have you noticed transition from dynamic-width web design to fixed-with one ? Most of current web sites are actually widescreen unfriendly (Amazon or this phpBB forum are few excpetions only).

But now that 16:9 laptops have exceeded 1920x1080, I no longer miss 1920x1200.
The form factor still looks odd, similar to Sigma dp0 Quattro camera. Too wide without providing any benefit.

Re: Win10Pro, SSD hardware encryption. How do I enable it?

Note that all modern SSDs use hardware encryption by default with random generated stored key you don't know about. This helps to erase the drive easily just by rewriting the key by another random one. Using good old SATA HDD password feature in BIOS you can protect the key that makes overall good a...

AFAIK most of T and X series have them but selected subset only is WWAN ready (have built-in antennas). You can use PSREF to get exact models.

USB has an inherently different design.
USB 3.1 SuperSpeed only is close to LAN by speed but there is serious limitation of maximum cable length compared to Ethernet. USB is still more a "bus" than "network" and has other issues like CPU utilization. So no, it can't solve it.

There is no replacement for LAN and never will be. Wi-Fi is unreliable and slow crap unless you're alone with your router on a desert island. It also does not work for some setups like virtual brigded network adapter.

You probably meant 7-row. Yep  During last two years I use desktop setup again more and more (X220 in dock with 4:3 monitor) so the Retro machine was more alike I "want" rather than "need" that. Having (low-res = low-quality) 16:9 display I'd probably skip it and build small desktop PC. There...

Since they're making 3:2 panels, it would be nice to see a 14" or 15" ThinkPad with one.
There must be a secret deal among big laptop vendors to not do that. The only 3:2 laptops are made by Microsoft and Huawei right now but both have terrible keyboards.

Someone here reports that his T470p has already died three times (third replacement). Wondering whether it is just typical Lenovo beta-grade BIOS already known from P50 (first few months machines died after some specific steps with docking etc) or hardware design or quality issue :(
