I'll share my experience with installing Vista Business on a T42p. For the most part it was a suprisingly smooth transition from XP. Almost everything was recognized and good to go under Device Manager. The only nagging issue was my Intel 2100B wireless card which for whatever reason cannot be contr...

fkelly: My T42p came with 1 GB installed. It's currently running Vista Business and there was almost an immediate, noticeable improvement in overall performance when I upgraded to 2 GB.

And if you have one located near you, check out Circuit City, they have the PNY Optima 1GB PC2700 DDR notebook ram going for $54. Just picked up one myself to upgrade a T42p to 2GB, works great!

Thoughts on PCMCIA vs Ultrabay storage media?

I'm in need of additional data storage, would a CF card make a good alternative to using a secondary harddrive? Something along the lines of: 8 or 16 GB CF card via a PCMCIA adapter->PCMCIA slot or 7200k hd via secondary Ultrabay adapter->Ultrabay slot The harddrive would win out in capacity for sur...

I ordered my certified used T42p directly from IBM and it came with a brand new 9 cell battery which was manufactured 6/07 so it seems they replace parts as needed. There were also some faint, minor scratches on the lid and a few keys on the keyboard had some shiny wear to them but overall the noteb...

Thanks for the info! Turns out I still had to download the Power Manager from Lenovo, for some reason it wasn't listed in the download directory for the T42p. In fact the T42p isn't even listed as a supported model but it seems to be working fine thankfully.

Beeping before sleeping option in Vista?

Is this option available under Vista? With XP installed, when I closed the lid the unit would beep continously until it went to sleep, but I no longer find this option in Access IBM under Vista.

Thanks again for all the information! I did have some reservations at first, especially with all the good deals floating around now on brand new, fully loaded R61's with a 3 yr. warranty, but once I finally got my hands on the T42p, I find myself unable to part with it :D :D :D In regards to the ext...

Thanks for all the information everyone! I just recieved my t42p and I'm running it through a battery of tests right now. So far here's what I've noted: 1) there are just a few, faint light scratches on the lid 2) some keys have some shine to them but otherwise minimal keyboard wear 3) palm rest, tr...

IBM Certified used notebook questions

I just ordered a T42p for a chance to experience a Flex View lcd, was the 'motherboard flex' problem really that widespread with this model? Was there a motherboard revision or other solution that truly solved this problem? Would the 3 month warranty cover the repair and could this warranty be exten...
