Thanks.

Any actual difference between these two versions of WIN7?

Got to finally take care of this (XP-->WIN7) and I've realized there's 2 versions that look identical to me. Can someone help me figure out which one to buy (it's for my Intellistation)? Thanks! :) Version FQC-04617 http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/search.asp?keywords=FQC-04617 Ve...

Re: Does the IBM ThinkPad 365XD have a recovery partition?

They don't have recovery partitions.

I have WIN98 on my TP365X (no CD drive) and with 72MB of RAM it seems to run fine. My 365X came with WIN95.

Re: What do with it vintage Thinkpads?

My i1400 still works after all these years, but it clearly doesn't have the build quality of the other two, and it has a very clunky, ugly look to it. By contrast, the 360 is gorgeous. The proportions are just right. The B/W screen makes for a thinner top cover. The 360 is also completely tool-less....

What do with it vintage Thinkpads?

Hi, I have 3 vintage thinkpads I don't use anymore and I'm looking for ideas on what to do with them (use them for something, try to sell them, recycle them as parts)... 1. A Thinkpad 360 - 486/33 with 12megs of RAM, b/w screen, DOS, windows 3.1, OS/2. ±800 MB drive (not original) in remarkable cond...

Re: Thinkpad 355c - error codes 161 163 - cylinder and padlock??

I have a Thinkpad 360, and the user's guide says the cylinder and pad-lock indicate that the hard drive is password protected. Don't know if it has the same meaning on your 355c, but I suspect it does. I don't know how to get around this. You may need to re-format the drive (which would erase everyt...

Re: It's IBM but not a laptop --- Intellistation Z Pro

The fans are loud, but I couldn't find replacements that had nearly as high a CFM rating as what IBM put in there. I've also found that the plastic shroud over the CPUs can be the source of a lot of noise since it tends to buzz and resonate. If you're looking to push your CPU usage over 50%, go onto...

My PC300PL only has 2 sockets... ???

Anyway, the memory max is often a chip set limitation, not a BIOS limitation. 3 x 256 is a pretty common max for PII/PIII motherboards.

Considering that it is the government who gives you the permission to use the road (via a driver's license), I don't see what the problem is. If you don't like their rules, then turn in your driver's license and take some other form of transportation where a cell phone is allowed (such as the bus)....

Very good detective work. That never would have occurred to me as generally (in my experience at least), you need the new bios FIRST or else the machine doesn't know what to do with the new processor.

OK, I think I understand now. You are probably losing your audio since many of these jacks have a built-in switch which is mechanically activated when a plug is inserted. Short of disassembling the front (or rear) panel of your computer and replacing the jack with a non-switching type, adding anothe...

I see the points above regarding the dangers of 5 MPH accidents. Never thought about that...

But even in a car-to-car crash at 5 MPH where there's no injuries of any kind, you can still end up with thousands of dollars of damage to your car.

Not sure I see the controversy here. It's dangerous to be on a cell phone when you're driving. I feel it's common sense, but I do believe there's been studies on driver concentration while on a cell phone, and it's not good. In Chicago it's illegal. If the police see you with a cell phone to your ea...

Voltage should be OK. Those specs should be OK. Sounds like a CPU problem... either defective or not installed properly. When you plug in the computer (with the power off) do you hear the computer sound like it's starting up for a second, but then it stops? (This is normal behavior). Also, are you s...

I agree that it's not a good idea to run the computer without a new application of thermal grease. I think the reason the heatsink pulled the processor out of the socket is because old thermal pads can get somewhat adhesive after a while so it's difficult to separate the processor from the heatsink....

I'm always slow to update to the next generation software. I have FF 2.0.0.16 and it works fine. Are there still any significant issues with FF 3, or does it seem to have whatever kinks and/or problems it may have had worked out OK?
