Re: Problem installing 320 gig drive in my T60
This may be totally off the mark, but I suspect that there is an issue when the original drive is 'C', bootable, AND active. I've always thought that as a result the cloned drive would lack "something". Maybe it's not set up as bootable; maybe it didn't get the proper bootloader setup, maybe it's no...

Re: Wireless networking slow to load - UBUNTU 9.04
Just a follow-up... Making the change did NOT change the behavior. I still get a random mix of timings for the wireless to begin to become active. Sometimes right away, sometimes after 30 seconds or so of waiting. Annoying...

Re: Wireless networking slow to load - UBUNTU 9.04
Ubuntu uses NetworkManager, right? If so, click on it's icon in the tray, say edit connections, select your wireless connection and set "allow for everyone" (or something like that, don't have a NM handy atm). That will allow NetworkManager to start connecting *before* you've logged in and you shou...

T60 with Intel Pro... Interestingly, it has now started to initiate the wirelesss connection immediately about every other time I boot. Weird.

Wireless networking slow to load - UBUNTU 9.04
After upgrading to 9.04, I'm finding that my wireless networking is REALLY slow to become active - maybe 30 seconds after the system is "up". It almost seems as if that's the absolute last thing that gets loaded, and it's always the FIRST thing I want to use. Anyone have any ideas as to how I might ...

Re: UBUNTU compatibility questions
Just in case anyone has the same concerns I did... Took a while, but I finally got around to installing 9.04. As previously mentioned, the concern was the video driver for ATI x1400 at 1680x1050, which had previously been problematic with regard to compiz and coming out of standby. The install went ...

Re: UBUNTU compatibility questions
Well, sounds as if maybe the video issues have been sorted out. I appreciate everyone's input, and I may just give 9.04 a shot.

Re: UBUNTU compatibility questions
This is the reason I sugest 8.04 as it's a live CD and it allows you to run from the CD, without installing it on your computer. That's how you determine if there are any incompatibilities to sort out. Based on all that I've read I doubt you will have a problem. The live CD version of 7.1 worked fi...

Re: UBUNTU compatibility questions
I appreciate the response, but the main issue I'm having relates to the video combination of ATI and 1680x1050 resolution, and you didn't mention having systems that have that combination, so I'm not sure that your experiences relate to my question. Yes, I can install and hope for the best, but it'd...

UBUNTU compatibility questions
I'm currently using UBUNTU 7.10 and have it (mostly) running the way I want it, but there have always been some issues with the hardware in my T60. Specifically, my video is the ATI X-1400, and this first presented a problem with the initial install, and later with compiz, as the drivers were flakey...

Trade Vista Ultimate 64-bit for 32-bit?
Anyone out there have a 64-bit version they'd be willing to trade for a 32-bit version? This is the SP1 version.

Recover Disks to Larger Harddrive?
I did a quick search to see if this question had come up previously, and couldn't find it... If you've installed a larger hard drive in your machine, and want to restore your laptop to factory condition, can you run the recovery disks on the larger drive? Is the recovery process smart enough to adju...

Well, I can understand your disappointment; it's tough to buy something thinking it's going to be great and then it falls on its butt. That said, I bought a T60 WSXGA+ with X1400 graphics and XP Home. Installed, for the first time, Linux (Ubuntu Gutsy). Had some issues with video resolution and gett...

Well, the first thing that comes to mind is to find a set of restore/recovery disks and return everything to the factory install status. It sounds like you didn't make these disks initially (when you first got the machine)? What you appear to have done is to make a backup of the system AFTER you mad...

Are you certain that the Recovery partition is actually gone? The MBR pointers to it may just be fragged. If you haven't already, try using a partition editor to look around. I think that the installation of Ubuntu (and probably any other dual-boot Linux) disables the blue Thinkvantage button at min...

Since no one else is diving in, I'll try to help as best I can. I'm not sure about the screen saver issue, but the video playing might not simply be a driver issue. There's a thread on UBUNTU FORUMS concerning getting multimedia to work properly. I highly recommend you take a look at it; maybe it ca...

Unfortunately, it's not clear what you are asking. Are the "recovery CDs" the ones you created when you first got the computer or are they CDs that came from Lenovo? I don't think the recovery CDs swell based on configuration - the base recovery CDs cover all configurations. Please clarify you post...

T60 ati X1400 WSXGA+ 1680x1050 resolution, compiz, etc
I have UBUNTU (7.10) running fine using XGL and the restricted drivers. I'd prefer NOT to have to use XGL, however. I know there have been some new ati drivers released in the meantime, so my question for anyone who has a similar/identical system is: Have you been able to get the new drivers to use ...

Did I do it correctly?
I thought that I got my Recovery Disk(s); the ones that restore the laptop to its originally-shipped configuration. However, having read that you get one chance only, and I seem to have done it a couple times, I wonder if I didn't mess it up? That would be a BAD thing, since I wiped out the Recovery...
