Correct. Plus, I was doing computationally-intensive stuff that barely touched the HDD. In the end, everything was fixed by all the BIOS changes.j-dawg wrote:His concern isn't that the CPU isn't at 100% load, but that it's not at 1.6GHz. He wants to prevent CPU throttling.

Re: CPU stuck at low speed
I went back to BIOS this morning and also changed the CPU Power Management and Adaptive Thermal Management settings to try to further prevent CPU speed changes. So far, so good.

Re: CPU stuck at low speed
You can set priorities manually: close any programs that might want resources, open Task Manager, right-click on the process, and change its priority to an appropriate level. If you're not planning on using the computer for other tasks while it crunches numbers, consider setting it to Realtime; thi...

Re: CPU stuck at low speed
In the BIOS settings under Power , there is a section called Intel(R) SpeedStep technology . Under Mode for AC , it was Automatic , but I switched it to Maximum Performance . And would you believe it, between now and when I started this post, the CPU speed dropped from 1.6 GHz to 983 Mhz. Sheesh. Th...

Re: CPU stuck at low speed
Recall that 983MHz is 983,000,000 cycles per second and 1.6GHz is one point six billion cycles per second. It is literally a matter of nanoseconds for the CPU to switch to the faster cycle, complete its job, and switch back. Your meter does not update often enough to register when the computer choo...

Re: CPU stuck at low speed
What you're talking about is the "Adaptive" CPU speed setting. I have it set to "Highest". I interpret that to mean the CPU speed should never drop.dr_st wrote:It will switch to 1.6GHz when it needs to. It's best to let it determine when it is.

CPU stuck at low speed
I have an X60 Tablet with a Intel Core Duo L2400 (1.67 GHz). I am on Windows 7 x86, and I have all available updates from Microsoft. I also have all available updates per ThinkVantage System Update. Lately my CPU drops to 983 Mhz and seems to stay stuck there for a long time. If I insert or remove t...

Re: Windows 7 on x60s - will not resume from sleep
This has recently stopped being a problem. I am not clear if it's because of a fix in Lenovo or Microsoft software.

Re: Windows 7 on x60s - will not resume from sleep
Correction: it has frozen up a few times even on self-initiated sleep. Still don't see rhyme or reason for this.
System Update 4 for Windows 7 just came out. I removed all old Thinkvantage/Lenovo software and let System Update install current versions and still have the problem.

Re: Windows 7 on x60s - will not resume from sleep
I previously had the laptop set to never fall asleep, even in battery mode. Now I have it back on balanced settings, and it never has a problem falling alseep this way. It appears the problem is limited to user-initiated sleep.

Re: Windows 7 on x60s - will not resume from sleep
Updates: Removing Power Manager 2.43 didn't fix it. I found a way to consistently reproduce. This is related to how long the laptop has been idle. If the laptop is active--screen on and everything fired up as normal--then sleep mode works. However, if it's idle long enough for the monitor to power o...

Re: Windows 7 on x60s - will not resume from sleep
I have an X60 Tablet (6363-2BU), and I am also getting intermittent sleep failures with Windows 7 RTM. This week I sporadically get failed sleep: the monitor will power off, but everything else appears to be active. The HDD light intermittently indicates activity. I always put it in sleep mode with ...

...and yes, the workaround is to put the computer back to sleep with Fn-F4, then re-awaken it by touching Fn. This way the screen comes up nicely again every time. It's cumbersome and shouldnt be needed though... I've found that's no more effective than waking/sleeping through any other method. The...

I've never had to put a master password into FF. I agree with the idea that CSS could be beneficial, but the le...

The SD card reader ist connected via PCI. IBM/Lenovo choose to use a very cheap controller chip. Accessing the reader blocks access to all other PCI devices like audio. On top of that, the CPU has to do most of the I/O to/from the reader. Did Lenovo use a better controller in later laptops? I was u...

How to disable forward and back buttons near arrow keys
To the left and right of my up arrow key are two keys that appear to work like browser forward and back buttons. I would like to disable these.
