Correct. Plus, I was doing computationally-intensive stuff that barely touched the HDD. In the end, everything was fixed by all the BIOS changes.

What you're talking about is the "Adaptive" CPU speed setting. I have it set to "Highest". I interpret that to mean the CPU speed should never drop.

Correction: it has frozen up a few times even on self-initiated sleep. Still don't see rhyme or reason for this.

System Update 4 for Windows 7 just came out. I removed all old Thinkvantage/Lenovo software and let System Update install current versions and still have the problem.

I previously had the laptop set to never fall asleep, even in battery mode. Now I have it back on balanced settings, and it never has a problem falling alseep this way. It appears the problem is limited to user-initiated sleep.
