Re: Printers

Printing on printable CD/DVD effectively narrows your field down to ink jet printers. Epson holds the US patent on direct CD/DVD printing, so offerings from other makers are limited. Presently, the printers that can print on CD/DVD out of the box are: Epson Artisan series Some Canon MG and MX series...

Re: ThinkPad Designations

Back around 1995-1996, when CD-ROM was becoming more common on laptops, the 760/765 and 360/365 models used the D designation for the units with CD-ROM drives. E.g. 365XD. Otherwise they came with floppy drives in the bay.

Re: Fan error and replacement fan on t60

The fan-only part does exist. I purchased this fan and installed it in my T60. It takes about as much work to replace the fan as to lubricate it. If you have the right lubricant on hand, might as well lubricate it instead of replacement. There are more information in the fan lubrication thread . The...

Re: T60 T61 fan lubrication - illustrated guide by msb0b inside

Received and installed the previously mentioned replacement fan. It replaces the aluminum half of the thermal device such that I reuse the existing copper heat sink/heat pipe half. This new fan is only $15, quite a bit less than a whole thermal device refurbed at $40 or new at $80. Before I put the ...

will report back when this one wears out. I am starting to get Fan Errors at POST, so I will mark this the end of the white lithium grease's lifetime. It lasted one week shy of 7 months of nearly 24/7 operation, which is about 1.7x as long as the mineral oil. I tried to lubricate the fan again, but...

CPU-Z shows the current (running) memory timing just fine on my T60 type 8743. However, it does not show the SPD information. Maybe this is what you are referring to?

Re: Impossible to install XP on a T60p with an aligned SSD

During the install the files are copied to the SSD as per usual, then the machine reboots but then it can't go on from there: "a disk read error occurred press ctrl+alt+del to restart". The symptom seems to suggest XP does not have a driver for AHCI installed. The standard (retail, msdn, technet, e...

Highly doubt the price of DDR2 will go significantly lower.

The rock bottom was back in 2007-2008. The retailers were moving 2GB modules for $10 to $15 each. 4GB modules were not yet available however.

Re: Using RAM with different frequency...

DDR3 is cheaper because there is a glut of memory chip in the market. Last I heard, which was in the news a month ago, DDR3 chips have dropped below $1 per gigabit chip. It means after assembly, the price should be around $10 per gigabyte or less. DDR3 memory modules are not compatible with DDR2 sys...

Re: T61p with 2503 Advanced Dock + ATI X1300

As you have found out, Lenovo only certifies the X1300 to be used with T60 and Z61 ThinkPads. With T61p, you have video card resource/driver conflict because the ATI X1300 in the dock is made by different company than the nVidia Quadro in your ThinkPad. IMO, the best course of action is to remove th...

Re: Thinking about buying a T61, comparison to a T60p

The T61 will be a step back in both display and graphics performance. The WXGA panel is quite a bit below T60p's UXGA flexview, and the Intel integrated GPU is quite slow in 2D and 3D performance. The upsides are the GPU is a power sipper, and it is not a nVidia time bomb. Gigabit in T60 crippled? T...

Re: T60 is so slow, help me figure out a SSD ultrabay solution!

I agree with SSD as the system drive and the HDD as the supplemental storage. SSD's strength is in nearly instantaneous seek time of < 1 ms. This makes the drive ideal for random file accesses such as booting the operating system, loading DLLs for applications, pagefiles, etc. Spindle hard drives' s...

Re: I'm looking to connect my t60 to an LCD HDTV

Chances are your HDTV will have HDMI and VGA ports. If you have a advanced dock or advanced mini-dock with DVI port, then you can use a DVI to HDMI cable or adapter. You will get the best image quality with this method, as the signal stays digital. If not, then you can use a VGA cable to connect the...

Microsoft does not care if your organization is business or home. As long as you have purchased Business or better, you have the downgrade rights. Muse's T61 has Vista Business CoA so he is qualified to use XP Professional. There is no downgrade program for home editions. More information on the dow...

This program is targetted at the businesses who standardized on previous versions of windows. This PDF file su...

RAM and SSD will make the most difference performance wise. If you use SSD, definitely use Windows 7 or other OS that supports TRIM command.
