Re: just bought an x41 and now need a hdd

Because this HS08XJC is a 2 platter design, it has low areal density and not very fast. The HS081HB and HS082HB are single platter 4200RPM designs and are quieter and faster. Single platter of the same capacity is 100% faster than dual platter. 4200rpm is only 23% slower than 5400rpm driver.

There are SD-PATA adapters. But the setup is almost unusable.

Re: win xp + eraser = pseudo ssd trim?

... I d/l a newer version and from my understanding, it is a middling alternative to TRIM. I do know it takes a LONG time to run. This type of "erase" doesn't do anything unless the final data on the SSD are made to be all "11111". If you cannot specify "1" data pattern, basically the program does ...

Most active adapters don't work because they are made for 5V slots. The slot in X40/X41/X41t are 3.3V.

Re: win xp + eraser = pseudo ssd trim?

You have to set write data pattern to all "11111" since new flash start with all "11111"s. Newer version of Eraser doesn't allow user specified pattern anymore. You have to find an older version. I'm using version 5.86.1. Incidentally Window7 doesn't do TRIM per se. It issues command to the SSD that...

Re: Thinking about getting a used X41.

PATA-CF adapter is probably the last choice since it is highly dependent on the CF card speed and high speed CFs are very expensive. PATA-ZIF is native and just a connector adapter. I still have many choices available. PM me if you have a need. PATA-SATA offers more modern choices and only limited b...

http://www.small-laptops.com/ibm-lenovo-thinkpad-x40/ I thought only some x40s came with the ULV processor. That is amazing that it's running off of a 9 volt battery. Dave I only had one ULV X40 passed through my hands, a 2371-4ZM and eventually sold it. Only one model was sold in the U.S. and most...

Re: x41 tablet mem spec / can I use 2GB? plz advise ...

I recently came across a T60p with the T7600 CPU, 2313-L8U. This version will support 64bit OS hence larger than 3.xGB RAM space. I think we can say there are no support for 64bit OS for X4x and earlier machines.

That HS082HB is a single platter drive and the HS161JB is a two platter drive. So I expect the two will be very close in performance since they have same areal density.

Re: Current CF card for X41 for Win XP OS

Since both CF cards and XP doesn't support TRIM, it will get slower and slower as the CF card gets cluttered with "dirty" (1s and 0s instead of all 1s) free space. I think this is constant that most of us who used CF cards eventually move to real SSDs. Windows7 is not Panasea either, several of our ...

If you have good dexterity, the two parts can still be put back into the connector. They will stay in place once they are wedged under the contacts. Yes, a big magnifying glass with lights do help.

In order to erase a block, controller has to use a spare block to move the data. Eventually the controller is just overwhelmed.

Re: mSATA SSD - 60Gb OCZ Nocti - failing with TrueCrypt

The SSD controllers looks for "11111" first during write cycles because it is the fastest. But encryption place data randomly instead of sequentially. So eventually the controller cannot find any "clean" free space (11111). Then it starts to do erase on every write. This makes the drive look busy al...
