Thanks, Harryc.
Does anyone in the Boston area have an X6x battery I could borrow for about 10 minutes?
If so, let me know.
Thanks,
bartelby

Re: X61s Doesn't recognize battery
Is there any way to verify that there's nothing wrong with the hardware? I would not be pleased to spend $180 on a new Lenovo battery only to find I still have the problem...
Thanks for thinking about this, anyway. I appreciate it.

Re: X61s Doesn't recognize battery
Sort of. The battery is shown with a large red X over it and a message saying something like, "this battery is totally messed up", which is different from how the knockoff battery is displayed: empty battery icon with dashes and "no battery installed"

X61s Doesn't recognize battery
I bought an X61s on eBay. Supposedly, its only problem was a dead battery. After installing a replacement battery, the power manager indicated that no battery was installed. I uninstalled power manager, since I read on this forum that power manager doesn't work with some replacement batteries. The P...

X30 Wireless Aironet 350 Sees Networks but Wont Connect
I have installed Open Suse 10.3 on my X30. The Aironet 350 wireless client can see wireless networks, but will not connect to them. What am I doing wrong? If this is not a readily soluble problem, are there cheap wireless PCI that will work with my installed version of linux without too much fiddlin...

Can't remove X30 from ultrabase
Hi,
I am unable to remove my X30 from its ultrabase - the lever simply doesn't move. Is this a known problem and if so, what is the fix for it?
Thanks,
bartelby

Installing linux on X41 w/security chip
Are there issues with installing linux on an X41 with a security chip (I don't recall the model number)? When I try to load Suse 11.0, the installation fails while attempting to install the boot loader. Is this due to the security chip? If so, any idea how to deal with it?
Thanks,

The Soggy Continues
Speaking of which, the Transcend 133x got slower and slower and finally died. I was thinking of sending it back to Newegg for a replacement, but sent it directly to Transcend in Calif. instead. Got a brand new one back in a week. The new one seems to have a read rate about 5 to 7MB/s higher than th...

My battery life is, as you say, in that ballpark - 2:00 to 2:20 hours on a full charge. I was getting closer to three hours with my X30. All of it is totally mind-boggling, of course. How quickly one comes to take for granted how wonderful and strange it is to have SO MUCH computational power availa...

You can do that from the IBM battery maintenance software. I chose not to because "resetting the battery" involves fully cycling the battery - discharging it to zero and then charging it back to 100%. I may be wrong, but it seems to me that a battery has a limited number of cycles in it and cycling ...

New X41
I recently bought an X41 off ebay. It is a wonderful machine - with the possible exception of a 1965 Ducati Dianna Mk III, the nicest physical object I have ever possessed. The slow and small hdd has not so far been a problem. All the software and data I need fit nicely and run beautifully on the ne...

What I am asking is, has anyone ACTUALLY DONE this? If so, what were the details and how did it work out? In most cases of theory vs practice, I am more interested in the results of actual practice rather than vague speculation inspired by theory. There are a few 1.8" ZIF drives available. Which one...

The screen is in good condition - one dead pixel and minor pressure marks not visible under most conditions. There are a few minor scratches, but overall the appearance is quite good. The case has the usual signs of wear that you'd expect in a machine of this vintage. When I was experimenting with S...

Question
The X3 series has a built in compact flash slot. Is it possible to boot from a card in this slot? If yes, a possible setup might be to put the os on a small, fast card in this slot and use two larger, slower cards in one of those dual card adapter gizmos as the main storage for the machine. The stor...

Now I'll be looking for a 16GB slower cheaper card to compliment the Lexar one. Overall, not a very cheap project. So far came out to $30 for adapter plus about $155 for the card shipped. Have you looked at these folks: mydigitaldiscount.com They advertise a 16gb, 233x UDMA card for less than eight...

addonics adapter
I did't do much. The adapter plus two cf cards seem pretty secure in the slot. I **did** put a dab of duct tape across the connector just for luck, but doubt that the adapter would have been likely to come adrift without it. So far, this arrangement has worked beautifully. My only complaint is that ...

Can I RAID it?
As others have done before me, I built an improvised SSD for my X30 from a dual Addonics adapter and a pair of 16GB 133x Transcend CF cards. I then underwent the pain of reinstalling XP on this rig. I am not the first person in this thread to observe that random write performance with this setup is ...

Dim Display on X30
I have had an X30 for ~2 years & REALLY LIKE it. About two weeks ago, the display suddenly dimmed to what must be its lowest setting. It is barely visible in daylight. Anyone have any idea what went wrong and how I might fix it?
Thanks
Thanks
