Re: X201s discharges even when hibernated
I'll second checking the wake-on LAN settings. Had this problem once with an X300 which was solved by disabling the "wake on Link" in the network adapter's advanced settings (as I recall). Might be worth checking BIOS settings as well. Wish you well, as it was very frustrating for me until solved.

Re: who's moved on from T43 / T42? recommendations please
Back to the OP ... I have recently done exactly that. Long-time T42 user for writing and light office apps, for which the 4:3 screen and low heat load (i.e. fan off) was perfect. Recently moved day-to-day operations to a T520 and am finally reasonably happy (see signature for other experiments). Tur...

Re: X300 CPU temperature readings
This seems pretty normal - low 50's with only office apps / pdf viewer / simple web browsing. Using tpfancontrol I typically keep the fan at 1 (inaudible to me), and start ramping at 60C, which it rarely reaches unless the kids are watching video (I work slowly). So typically, it's completely silent...

Re: Problems with X300 6-cell battery order
One difference between the 6-cell and 3-cell battery is that the 6-cell has rubber feet on the sides, the 3-cell (being thinner) does not.

Re: X300 Battery drains on hibernate
This forum is just about the best feature of a thinkpad ... After silently suffering the same problem with my X300 with both 3-cell and 6-cell batteries, but too busy to try to track it down, I can confirm that disabling the LAN "wake on" options in bios and device manager solves the problem. No mor...

I had success dropping one of these into a T42: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820609271 after cloning the disk (WXPP) with trueimage, including the recovery partition, which works. Not cheap, but fast and completely silent. Just make sure you leave the jumper attached for the...
