Re: IBM Thinkpad Battery Re-Celling Battery Rebuild Tutorial

I think the NiMH is easier to rebuild, though to be honest I haven't seen one in over a decade. :o IIRC the Li-ion battery doesn't use 18650 cells, but something a bit smaller, maybe 17500? Hmm. Which would have more longevity, though? The NiMh or Li-Ion? I can't remember for the life of me which p...

Re: T430 - mSATA SSD or SATA SSD?

Me, as I use externals for storage as a rule, I'd max out every possibility on board with a bootable drive and have a double or triple boot machine with an OS on each drive in such a scenario. 64GB would obviously host a flavor of Linux, maybe a second Ultrabay HDD would be macOS if a Hackintosh is ...

STAPLES has this set on clearance, but only in stores. I think it was like $3 or so.

Re: TRUE old tech users, using today

Frankly, for a number of reasons, I'm inclined to break out an IBM-era machine for routine use. I actually do use a 760XD every so often as I loved that series dearly, and it can handle composing a letter at least. :)

Typing this on a P53 right now though...must do better!

Gonna take a wild guess that some of those other unpopulated solder pads need to be addressed as well for that to work.

OT, but the OLED banding on the P53 (with the touch OLED) is getting worse, I'm just noticing it more, or both. Either way, I'm starting to think maybe I should RMA it.

Re: IBM Thinkpad Battery Re-Celling Battery Rebuild Tutorial

Haven't dusted one off in bit, but I assume there's still no source for 760 series batteries? I considered recelling one, but stopped when I wondered if the Ni-Mh or Li-Ion was was easier to do, and if it was possible to improve on the original design. What would be the best option to get a 760 port...

Good question. I just created an Alibaba RFQ for the classic dome caps, but it got rejected: "The product you've requested was found to be a 'Prohibited Product'and therefore breaches our Product Listing Policy." Apparently the AI got upset by "cat's tongue". Removed that, and waiting for of...

It's been ages since I posted about them, but I remember when some aftermarket cat's tongue ones were made in various colors, and I collected a few (green was a favorite). Sadly, as we all know, cat's tongue gets dirty fast, so I stopped using them. Has anyone done any of the dome ones in such varie...

Should I even be bothering with that, or should I go the T500/W500 fan route instead? Heatsinks aside, I recall researching the same matter aways back and and discovering the latter T400 era (and T500 era, I'd surmise) Furukawa fan models to be more durable than the Toshiba ones. (I forget the FRU)

If your ThinkPad is under warranty, phone Lenovo support and ask for the appropriate recovery media (the type of windows you need and whether it needs to be x86 or x64), they'll ship it to you for free. It's probably best to do this sooner rather than later if you're needing that media for the futu...

I knew this would happen. :) Don't think I drank the 10 kool-aid. I already booted with Acronis and made a backup. Still, I'd like the same situation as a model shipped with 10 (all correct drivers and 10-specific apps) before I go clean install or back to 7. So, by not addressing whether the recove...

T460 (Topseller) [W7 preload via W10 downgrade rights]: Best way to have 10 as OS?

In a nutshell, with a OOTB unconfigured W7 preload, and with a desire to have 10 as the primary (or sole) OS, which is the best option? Firstly, with a 10 Pro sticker on the bottom, is the recovery partition on this machine for W10 or 7? Assuming the worst, 7, these are the options I'm assuming woul...

They both top out at 450 at 5ghz.
Speaking generally, not as if those cards are equally matched on stated specs, then the sensitivity of the Atheros card is greater. I also find more settings available with Atheros cards than Intel ones.

Re: problem with key 'caps'

I personally prefer Alps over NMB. The trackpoint buttons are especially firmer and not as 'soft' as chicony or nmb ones. Personally, I think the balance of choice would be more toward comfort of keyboard use than trackpoint buttons. Although, unless I already had an NMB in hand to swap in, I would...
