Henrycc in the marketplace section might still have some X40 batteries. I picked up two (never used, manufactured in late 2006) 4-cell batteries from him a few weeks back for $30 each + shipping. I purchased these in anticipation of getting a dead battery with the X40 that I got from ebay, but I was...

Re: How to secure the drive bay door with CF installed?
There's a jumper that lets you configure one side as slave/master. From what I recall, the distinction between slave and master doesn't matter with just a single device. In any case, removing the CF connector on the back is just a physical modification of this adapter. To the laptop, it will still a...

Re: How to secure the drive bay door with CF installed?
It might not be a total wash. I'm going to desolder the CF connector on the back side (without the "CF-IDE44...ADAPTER" text). I'll lose dual functionality, but at least it won't be completely worthless. Interestingly, this backside connector is TALLER than the frontside connector by about 2mm. From...

Re: How to secure the drive bay door with CF installed?
Bah! Apparently, the white diagonal mark (upper left) in the photo above indicates pin 1 on the IDE connector. It only fits into the X40's drive bay oriented as pictured, which, as syzygy pointed out, is not happy at all: pin 1 should be on the right side. I guess I'll just have to save that for a n...

I purchased two X40 batteries from henrycc, and the transaction went wonderfully. I paid on a Sat., and the goods were in my hot little hands by Weds., coast-to-coast.

Just a heads up: 4gb and 8gb 266x Kingston cards can be picked up from http://www.adraycamera.com for $86-$50 (rebate)=$36 and $152-$75 (rebate)=$77, before shipping at the moment. They've got good reviews from http://www.resellerratings.com , too. I took my chances with a 4gb Lexar from http://www....

Re: Kingston 266x
The Kingston card is great. It recognizes as a fixed disk at UMDA 5. Using HD tun Min TR: 12.7 Max TR: 41.9 Average: 39.9 Access Time: 0.5 Burst 34.6 CPU 3.1% I did all the things Lewster 215 summarized. I have an old copy of XP, no OEM disk, so it took me a while to get SP2 and the drivers. As a r...
