Problems reading DVD+R DL and DVD+RW

My apologies if this has been brought up before. I tried searching on this topic and could not find anything. I have a T41p with the original multiburner option (the Matshita UJ-812B, P/N 92P6110) that only burns DVD-R and DVD-RW. However, it is supposed to read all of the +R stuff. I can usually re...

Hi, Has anyone used the ATI drivers on the ATI website for Redhat Enterprise 3 or 4 or Redhat 9 or Fedora Core 3 with the T42 w/ATI 9600? RPMs for the ATI drivers built against the FC3 kernels are availible via yum or apt at http://rpm.livna.org/ . The RPMS for my FC2 installation from this site wo...

I have FC2 on T42p 2379-DYU

I put Fedora Core 2 on my 2379-DYU when I got it at the end of May. At the time, I had to work pretty hard to get it going, but the latest kernel of FC2 handles pretty much everything except suspend-to-RAM and suspend-to-disk. There are even prebuit FC2 RPMs for the Atheros-based WiFi card (MadWiFi)...

With help from byron (thanks byron!), I have managed to solve the problem. Both Windows and Battery MaxiMiser save power schemes in the registry in HKEY_CURRENT_USERS/Control Panel/PowerCfg/PowerPolicies. A symptom of the problem seems to be and enormous (>80!) number of entries in PowerPolicies. Ho...

No power schemes in Battery MaxiMiser

I have seen this problem reported once before along with a possible fix, but the fix did not work for me. I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this: About a month or so ago, I suddenly noticed that the Battery MaxiMiser only had 2 power schemes: "Super Power Saver" and "Presentation (with ...

Bluetooth will not show up in the device manager until you actually turn it on. Just hit Fn-F5 and turn on the Bluetooth radio. You should then see the Bluetooth symbol LED (to the right of the WiFi LED) light up.

If you don't have the LED, then you don't have Bluetooth.

One thing that tripped me up for hours with my T42 is that the modem is different than the T41/T40 and the entire R series as well. Instead of being a Agere Softmodem, it is a Conexant HSF softmodem. The advantage of the Conexant is that there are professionally-made linux drivers for it. I bet that...

In your document you say, "You should be aware of 2 things, however. Firstly, although CPUFREQ (and kernel module "speedstep-centrino") was supported in FC1, it is not in FC2." FC2 does have CPUFREQ and speedstep-centrino compiled into the stock kernel (no modules). In order to work with the Dothan...

The fan in mine is almost totally silent. Even when it's actually running at higher speed, it's barely audible. It only does this when I am doing something compute-intensive. The 15" display does draw more power than the 14.1". Exact specs are on several older threads.

I get 3.5 hours out of my 15" UXGA with contrast on low and aggressive power saving on (but with wireless on as well). I think the norm for 14" is a little over 4 hours.

Express models are simply models that IBM produces in large quantities so they can discount them. In other words, they reward you for not being quite as picky about your configuration by letting you save a couple of $100. You can also get either a 1-year warranty (2378 models) or a 3-year warranty (...
