Re: T60 for T400?
But it still didn't stop you from spending unnecessary money for a CPU. Putting in a T7600 is NOT going to solve your problems. The faster HD is a good idea. But like most people said, a fresh re-install is the best. Oh I havent bought the CPU yet :) That was just a hypotyhetical question! But as I...

Re: T60 for T400?
Hmm, I guess that you really have to take it for granted that the system will clog and slow down over time. What is funny is that my desktop has more or less same specs, less ram but works much faster, even after some time and many applications installed. I tracked down a used T7600 and I think I'll...

Re: T60 for T400?
Get a SSD. Immediate and noticeable improvement and you can always throw in your next laptop if you choose to upgrade. No can do. I need space, which means I need minimum 160 GB and I cant afford spending 250 pounds on an SSD hdd of this size. Already ordered a Seagate Momentus 7200 RPM. T5500/5600...

T60 for T400?
Hello all! Hope everyone's fine! My T60 (2007-43G) has become really slow for some reason. I don't have installed any ThinkVantage crap apart from Power Manager. It takes about 1,5 minute for the machine to start up. Shutdown the same. The stuff I have in my taskbar are Kaspersky IS, instant communi...

WTB: T41 parts (London, UK)
Hello all! I'm refurbishing my old T41 for the missus and in need of the following parts: - the LCD cover or the entire lid (in a good condition!!) - motherboard (doesn't have to be new, but without the GPU problem, untampered with) - keyboard (preferably UK, good condition, no shiny keys) Would app...

Re: Spares for refurbishing T41?
poshgeordie, it was me indeed who contacted you. However, is that solution of reballing the chip permanent? I read it somewhere on this forum that it only works for some time.

Spares for refurbishing T41?
Hello all! Just a question. Does anybody know a website - apart from eBay - or a place locally (I'm in London, UK) where I can get good condition spare parts for T41? I wanted to get it up to scratch for my wife and I need the LCD cover or the entire lid, (brand, not shiny) new keyboard and, the mos...

Re: Changing GPU in T60
Don't get me wrong, I adore my T60 for its thinnes, weight, design, and specs (especially after an HDD and RAM upgrade
). And it's true that if one wants to play games on a laptop one needs to buy a game-dedicated machine, or use a desktop for that purpose.

Re: Changing GPU in T60
Thanks for all the help guys but if replacing my GPU involves some unorthodox activities I'm going to stick by what I have and istead of that upgrade my desktop. I like and appreciate my T60 too much to experiment with it and put its condition and safety at risk :) It's a pity though, you'd wish you...

Re: Changing GPU in T60
The purpose of that is to make my laptop a bit more game-friendly. I installed Rainbow Six Vegas 2 and the performance wasn't the best. Is there only a narrow range of compatibile, middle-range gpu's that I can choose from or can it be something that will actually improve gaming experience? Best, Pr...

How to prevent Ultrabay battery discharge completely?
Hello all! Just a question. Has there been a way devised of the power source switching from the Ultrabay battery to the main battery before the former is completely flat? If it keeps happening the Ultrabay one is going to lose its original capacity fairly quickly. Any ideas guys? Thanks in advance! ...

T41 - loose GPU syndrome
Hi all! I was just wondering if you could help with this notorious problem of T41. The screen freezes (often and ofter recently) when I lift the machine, move it around. Is there a cure for it? Is it possible to solder the GPU, to repair it somehow, or is the only remedy to buy a new motherboard? An...

I'd like to extend limitless gratitude to you HarryC! :) Actually what you advised me to do has worked! Surprisingly, though, because that ATi chip is very firmly solded to the board so I though that applying pressure is going to amount to nothing. However, when I was moving the machine around, the ...

Hello All! Just wanted to ask if you happen to know whereabouts is located the video card in T41, and is it possible to have access to it by taking the cover off? CD-Rom doesn't read
Hi guys! Today I tried to install something off a CD and he drive doesn't see it. It spins, but when I go to CD drive's properties -> Volume and press 'Populate' nothing comes up. Any ideas what it might be? A week ago it was working and I didn't mess around with any settings... :/ Thanks in advance!

Battery 1% and won't charge
Hello everyone! I bought a replacement battery (not genuine IBM) for my T41 around 1 mth ago. Was taking care of it, leaving aside being 40% charged, etc. Today I plugged it in with a view to charging it and it shows 1% of charge and 48 hours to charge completion. When I put the previous, old batter...
