Re: My T42 Completely Broke - Blank Screen, No BIOS
The computer is about a year old. Where could i take it to get it fixed? Should i contact IBM and send it in for repairs? Your unit came with a 1 year warranty, but just for the record, go here: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/product.do?template=/warranty/warranty.vm&sitestyle=lenovo an...

Did you try pulling out the memory and booting? No i didnt try that. You mean the memory that came with the laptop or the chip that i added to the extra slot? Thats a good idea, let me try to remove that and see what happens when i boot up. If it doesnt fix anything, how do i remove the main memory...

Thanks. So my next question is should i remove my hard drive? I want to recover the contents on there and i am wary of sending it to IBM. And also, i added bluetooth to my FVU-2378 and i dont want that card magically disappearing somehow, even if its accidental or from confusion on IBM's part. Shoul...

My T42 Completely Broke - Blank Screen, No BIOS
I hope someone can help me or guide me inthe right direction. In the last couple of days my T42 FVU-2378 started freezing up in Windows. After a few reboots and a system restore i thought it was fixed. But now when i turn it on i get nothing. No screen activity, no BIOS, nothing. When i press the po...

Just a quick question. I've been reading through the forums here because i am about to do a fresh install. I've already created my slipstreamed WinXP CD with SP2. I used the Unattend.txt file to get me CD Key, i wrote down the key from the back of my machine, and i also used magic jelly bean which g...

Re: A Better Way...
The default IBM install is slow and heavy. Max out your memory. Install a 7.2K HDD. Reinstall with a slipstreamed XP Pro/Server 2K3 SP2 (C:\WINDOWS on my T42 is 421 MB with full driver support). Partition as follows: System (C) Documents (D) Programs (E) Install a ramdisk and within it: 1. pagefile...

Thanks. I would like to dump everything to another hard drive, but unfortunately i am away from home and have nothing with me except my laptop. And i dont think its worth it to buy any additional hardware. So i've started the arduous process of burning individual cds to backup my 10 gigs of pictures...

Delete Partition, Fresh Install, and Backup Personal Files
I know there are plenty of threads/guides on how to remove the partition and perform a clean WinXP install. But i was asking for advice from anyone on what the best way to backup my personal files, i.e. mp3s, Word Documents, My Documents, etc... before i format my hard drive. I only have 1 hard driv...

Recovery Disk Won't Complete
I went to try to make a set of recovery disks today, but the computer rebooted within the first minute when i just started the process. No CD was even created or started; just the "image" was being created or whatever. But now when i click on the recovery cd option, i get a message saying the follow...

Audio Out Connection Loose (2378FVU) - Easy to Fix/Upgrade?
After lots of traveling using my laptop as an mp3 player, etc, the headphone/audio out jack is getting loose. Is it easy to replace or fix it? Hopefully its not connected directly to the motherboard so i could just replace that part. Any experience or advice would be appreciated. I searched but didn...

I just called IBM sales/technical support and tried to order the BMDC-2 and the clear plate. They told me that my T42 2378-FVU is not upgrable to bluetooth. Were they wrong? I placed this order a few days ago on the IBM website. Today i finally called to check my order status, and they said that th...

BMDC (P/N: 91P7319) & R51 BT Antenna (P/N: 13N5179) The BMDC has been opened, only to test it. The system recognized the card, so I know it works. The antenna is unopened. These are both straight from IBM and even have the original boxing; both bought on the 23rd of November, which is printed on th...

Re: How much do you set your brightness for T41?
Hello, fellows. How much do you set your brightness for T41, from 0 to 7? I currently set 6 when adaptor is connected and 7 when battery is in use. Is it normal? I just feel my LCD looks pretty dark compared with my Dell LCD. Anyone has experience to replace the LCD in this situation? Thank you so ...

If you're comfortable doing a clean install and know which IBM apps to put back on, I highly recommend doing so. Usually I would do a clean install of Windows XP but I find the preinstall on my T42 just fine. It's fast and some of the software just might be of some use. If i do re-install, I was ki...

New T42, Clean Install of Windows a Good Idea?
My 2378FVU is 2 weeks old. Should i save the IBM folders, I386 folder, make my restore CDs, wipe the HD completely and do a clean install of Windows? Is it a good idea in general to do this? With my desktop i do it all the time. But with the Thinkpad having the IBM drivers and software, i didnt know...
