I broke two batteries due to "fully discharged". Never let the battery be discharged without some kind of monitoring. If you run Windows, make sure you set it to standby or hibernate at 2% or so. If you disable this alarm action as instructed by the IBM manual (obviously written by a non technical a...

I replaced the CF WiFi card with a USB WiFi adapter, put it as close as possible to the EVDO antenna, no problem at all. I have been using an EVDO USB modem and a PCMCIA WiFi card on this X20 for months, never a problem. The USB EVDO modem is just too inconvenient - too bulky, so I thought to replac...

With Mbai2's method, you don't need anything else. I'm going to try it out.

Update: yes, Mbai2's method works with my iPod Touch and Thinkpad X20 (XP).

I just bought a Canon K30225 CF WIFi from ebay, $15 shipped. It works fine on my X20. It is very small, only 10 mm outside and the antenna is very cool, never need to pull it up. The problem is, if also use a S720 EVDO card in the PCMCIA slot, the S720 cannot make a successful dialup. The Canon CF s...

You'll need a special WiFi device whose software/driver support access point mode. I've tried Airlink101 USB 3028 and 3026, both work and they are deadly cheap at $5.

As long as don't use the lid switch and Fn+F7, my X20 has no problem at all - no more blocked keyboard keys, no more crash, no more missing mouse pointer.

The 900a is just a 900 with an Atom 1.6GHz CPU. Because Atom uses much less power, the battery life is doubled and heat is no longer an issue. If you want something that's smaller than X20, this 900A or 900HA is the very best choice. If you don't like slow and small SSD, then the 900HA is the one wi...

X20 and EEE PC 900A *PICS*

I though it might be interesting to most of us here. The only advantage of X20 is the COLD palm bay because battery (no any heating circuit) is underneath. The 900A is as cold and quiet except the palm bay that's slightly warm if I put my palms on it to let the heat build up. The 900A is in BestBuy ...

For those who have to have a large 12" screen, X20 is still the very best. But I want the smallest that's still usable, this 900a or 900ha is so far the only choice. Thanks for the test, I just bought one for $25.

I've been looking for a 256MB for my X20 (2662). I've tried two, both are 8 chips, both show 128MB only.

It is ridiculous to spend $50 for 256MB for a laptop I bought for only $100. Hopefully this $25 one will work.

Error: 0198 Power source is battery

I just bought a used X20. When it boots, it beeps but it starts Windows XP successfully and everything works just fine.

However, if AC is not plugged, it won't even try to load any OS and stops with this error message: Error 0198 Power source is battery.

Any idea? Thanks.

Try the CS4281 audio driver

I use one of my X21 for DVB to watch digital TV. The problem is the audio goes into buzz sound after a while and video suffers from blocks and interrupts. I upgraded the CS4281 driver from IBM's (5.1.2535.0) to CS's (5.12.1.5026), now everything is fine. So if your X2 have some strange problem, you ...

Fn key wakes up my X21 - good!

Somehow I set the Fn key to be sticky in BIOS (one press and it goes into hold-down status so I don't have to hold this key down for blue keys). Now if I press the Fn key, my X21 wakes up from standby. This is very handy, in addition to the sticky Fn key feature.

Standby problem and solution

I love my X20 in all aspects except one thing: often, it won't go into standby mode. After spending lots of time on this issue, I found mouse drifting is one of the causes, beside the old BIOS and video driver, and so far the only solution is this AutoIt (V2) script: SetTitleMatchMode, 2 Start: Slee...
