I was sent a 250MB Zip drive a few years back with an used TP600E I purchased on eBay.

From looking at the ThinkWiki, I have narrowed it down to it either being an Ultrabay II or an Ultraybay 2000.

The entire inside bottom of the case had the sticky soda residue. There was leakage from the main battery.

Still not sure why the unit was failing since the reside wasn't on the pc boards.

I doubt you are going to be able to get sound going on your 600E with Linux Mint 9 Lxde. The kernel is too new. As wrote in your other thread, I tried Puppy Linux 4.3.1 based on the newer 2.6.25 kernel, and the sound would not work whereas it would work with the older 2.6.21 kernel. Linux Mint 9 Lxd...

The check for adequate battery voltage is built into the BIOS update script. Depending on which model, it sometimes is possible to fool it. I was able to update a 570 BIOS without a working battery. I have two good 600E batteries, so I was able to upgrade the BIOS on three 600E without any problems....

One thing I did not mention was that I updated my BIOS to the latest available for my model of 600E. You will need a battery with some charge left in it.
