I've got the T42p with the fingerprint scanner, and I want a bezel without the scanner or touchpad.

I have searched, but got mixed answers, and basically confused myself even more. I have a native T42p HDD in my 42p. Can I place that disk into the 43 without having any 2010 errors, and install the replacement 5k160 80gb into the 42p? I need a hard drive that will work in the 43 without any BIOS is...

What parts can be replaced?

Most importantly keyboards, bezels, what else?

Memory, HDD, and wifi are universal, so that goes too.

What about the optical drives?

Wow, can anyone point me in the right direction for a T42p palmrest with touchpad and fingerprint scanner? Forgive my ignorance, but I was unable to find it on IBM's website.

I've seen a T43 without a fingerprint scanner, and all sorts of 43/42 combinations with and without it.

The Toshiba drive came out of an Acer laptop years ago.

I doubt it's still under warranty.

No, the T42 does not recognize the Toshiba drive either.

Maybe bad sectors, something, or other. Frankly, I don't care. Now that I can silence that little voice in the back of my mind that I had a fried motherboard, and know exactly what's wrong, I can rejoice.

How do I get into the screen that lists the IDE devices attached?

Already tried that. Tried rebooting with defaults, and with network completely disabled.

Next step is to boot without modem/wifi hooked up.


BTW, is this a fair price, or should I go down? There's another T43 that's going for $400, but is fully functional. However, it's the 14".

The 15" palm rest is one piece encompassing the entire upper layer, it entombs the keyboard.

The 14" is two piece. One above the keyboard, and one below.

Both have fingerprint scanner options.
