I use a Brenthaven Topload and Backpack with a T42 15". The Brenthaven sleeve is very thick and bulky, so I use a Waterfield (sfbags.com) sleeve instead.
The Brenthaven Topload is much lighter without the original sleeve. I believe the tradeoff in terms of size/weight vs. protection is worth it.

Same problem with T42 15"
On my T42, there is the same looseness and clicking when pressing down on the right side palmrest. The plastic strip above the DVD drive is also loose and flexes when pressed down lightly.

T42 15" sleeve
I use a Waterfield No. 15 vertical sleeve for my T42 15" with 6 cell battery. It is a tight fit, but works well in a backpack.
