Agreed. The Toshiba Portege R705 is a fantastic machine and the price is excellent. But in the Thinkpad situation...it's a higher class/quality/design of product for business users over the generic Lenovo laptops. The Lenovo consumer laptops if anything have gained from the Thinkpad brand and engine...

Saw this Mini Laptop "netbook" from the first Resident Evil 1 movie that released in 2002. Back then we probably never thought about netbooks being so popular today... but the design looks interesting and reminded me of the thinkpad style...although the screen doesn't look proportional with the keyb...

lol good point about the name... a few of the T61p's had Graphic Card/Voltage problems when they first came out....motherboards had to be replaced...it took a back and forth battle and several customers to make themselves heard on the lenovo forums to get something done about it. but for a while the...

glad I'm reading all these things before I drop a hefty fee for the latest x301. Alot of companies these days don't make computers like they used too....yeh sure they have new shiny stylish looking designs, ie Apple, Dell, Lenovo etc... but they seem to come with more glitches or faults than ever be...

As predicted Intel released 2 new ultra slim laptop processors today. I guess an x301 update is coming. :) I'll be looking at that closely. why couldn't they just round it off to 2.0 ghz!! I remember back in the IBM days that persons were able to get a safe cleaning solution I think either from IBM or a thirdparty seller.

and it restored the nice clean matte finish after using it.

Just wondering what everyone uses to clean the back of the LCD where we tend to hold the laptop. Fingerprints and smudges always show up...eventually.

How do you clean that matte coating outside to remove marks or finger prints?

one of the things I miss when IBM had the line...was the thinkpads were really "black" and not the new lenovo sort of charcoal black. lol

if you look at the picture in your link you see the difference in blackness.

found some brilliant and helpfull close up pictures and comparison photos of the new x301 next to a x60 This is good cause you can get a feel for how thin the x301 is and it's size in proportion to the x60. SU9600 = 1.6ghz, 3mb L2 cache, FSB 800 mhz, 10w power draw.
(some say there's a 2.0ghz)

a 2.0 ghz SU9600 would be nice with faster cache and FSB without sacrificing battery time.

well I'm answering my own questions. lol I found there's already a faster version of the SU series of intel chips. SU9600 and Sony seems to be the first to jump on the wagon but have not officially announced it. I found their Vaio TT is up with the new processor on several retail sites for pre-order...
