Re: Adding Fingerprint Reader to X201 Tablet

I didn't get any replies to this, so I thought I would let whoever's searching for this in 10 years know that the cable is present on models without the fingerprint reader. I ordered an entire screen bezel from a model with a fingerprint reader (even though mine has the style screen with a breakaway...

Adding Fingerprint Reader to X201 Tablet

I just picked up a X201 Tablet for a pretty good price, but I miss the fingerprint reader from my T400. Just looking on eBay, it appears to be integrated into the screen bezel. Would the connectors already exist, or is it going to require a lot more to add one?

Re: X120e -- Dynamic Backlight Brightness?

Disregard. I didn't have any luck searching any X120e specific forums, but found some on Lenovo's official forums for a different model. Tons of people offering suggestions regarding Lenovo's PowerManager, Dynamic Brightness Control (which was disabled), etc. Finally found one post that explained it...

X120e -- Dynamic Backlight Brightness?

I just picked up an X120e in perfect condition, and I'm really liking it so far. But I've found an annoyance with the backlight. It seems that when the screen is displaying a light or mostly white image, it increases the brightness. When showing darker content, the backlight dims. The backlight "lev...

Re: Strange Display Problem

Hate to disappoint you, but you DO have the nVidia bad-GPU-problem. No disappointment here, I just need to know what it is so I can get it back in service. I might see if I can pick up a late production nVidia or GMA mobo from eBay. Do you know off hand if the Intel GPU-based motherboard can be swa...

Strange Display Problem

So I have a 14.1" T61 with the nVidia 140M. I know what you're thinking, GPU failure, but hold on. I'm not getting the beeping, no-power-on problem. The problem I'm having is that after extended periods of use, the screen turns black. Then red, green, blue, white, then shows some greyscale sliders, ...

Re: Quick Question about Multitouch X61 Tablets

Go to Lenovo's support site: http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/ Choose "quick path", type in the machine type - model, and hit enter. The following page will have enough info to tell whether it's multitouch or not. You can also use "parts lookup" under "warranty" to get more detailed info. Perfect, t...

Quick Question about Multitouch X61 Tablets

I'm looking for an X61t for a friend, and one of his requirements is that it has the touch (finger) screen. But I'm having some trouble finding them, and a lot of vendors on eBay just say "touchscreen" even when referring to digitizer-only units. So I was wondering if there's a quick way to tell by ...

TP Power Manager/Battery Gauge Modification

I know this is a long shot, but does anyone happen to know where the files for the taskbar battery gauge is stored on Windows 7? I've peaked through all the binaries (with ResHack) at C:/Program Files/ThinkPad/Utilities/ and found tons of graphics used in the actual Power Manager utility, but none f...

Re: T61 Squishy Trackpoint Buttons

I got a PM from a member here (not sure if he wanted to remain anonymous, since he PM'd me rather than replying here), but it was as follows: The buttons can be removed, but be careful. Lift the left and right, from their bottom edge, first. Then you can pry-off the middle one. If you pick off the m...

Re: T61 Squishy Trackpoint Buttons

Those red-surrounded keys (my upper mouse buttons) are part of your keyboard, available from e.g. the link that I gave you. If (s)he has not got them, someone else (on eBay or here) will. Again, I don't believe they need to be replaced, I'm just interested in learning HOW to remove them. Regular ke...

Re: T61 Squishy Trackpoint Buttons

What do you consider "trackpoint button s "? In my book those are the mouse buttons, one (upper) set as part of the keyboard, the lower set as part of the palmrest. If you talk about the single button or stick (and the underlying mechanism), on which the trackpoint cap sits, you're out of luck, unl...

Re: T61 Squishy Trackpoint Buttons

You can buy complete individual keys (keytop, mechanism and dome). See e.g. here: http://www.ebay.com/itm/IBM-Lenovo-T60-T61-R60-R61-Z60-Z61-Keyboard-Key-Keys-/310279213785 Make sure you get the correct parts. For not much more you can get a decent, complete keyboard.... Um, thanks? I don't need an...

T61 Squishy Trackpoint Buttons

While using my laptop today, I noticed the trackpoint buttons started feeling like they were "sticking". I didn't think much of it, but a little bit later, they started feeling squishy. All three have begun doing it. They still seem to work okay, but they don't have the "click" feedback like they us...

OK, maybe the chome wheels are an exagerration. But still you got a circa 2007-08 notebook that is one Intel iteration away from obsolesence and you still want to spend CAPEX on it? Why not get something portable in terms of the cam which you can use or sell or give to someone whne you are one iter...

Re: T61 Camera Retrofit

From a cost/benefit/complication standpoint, why not just get a small USB clip on cam? Logitech makes good cams, probably a lot better resolution than a Lenovo one. Sure the fit and finish will be nicer to have it built in but it reminds me of kids who put $1,000 chrome wheels on a 10 year old Hond...

T61 Camera Retrofit

I'm considering installing the factory webcam in my T61. It's a 14" widescreen with a 1440x900 display. There are two things I was hoping to answer before spending any money: 1. I've heard that the 1440x900 model wasn't available with a webcam, for whatever reason. This would leave me to believe the...

Re: BREAKING NEWS: T61 nVidia thinkpads now being repaired N/C

I have one of the "fixed" from birth August 2008 built T61ps (08/08 on the sticker) that I purchased new and although always been docked, it's been used pretty heavily with 3D GeoTechincal programs that stress the GPU as hard as any gaming would. My CPU-Z v1.57 reads out exactly the same as DK6400B...

Re: Numeric keypad

As per this image, it doesn't look like the Edge has the keypad keys, let alone a NumLock key. Compare to a T61 keyboard, for example, you can see how various keys on the right side of the keyboard have "sub" numbering that indicates their use when Numlock is turned on. I'd get used to a USB keypad,...

I didn't have much trouble getting it to re-stick; I was really careful not to get it dirty/oily or anything when I pulled it up, but if I continue having issues with it then I'll replace the tape. So far it seems to be more or less solved. Thanks.

Re: T61 dash hump

Thanks for the replies. I took the keyboard off and it looks it's just kind of a poor design. In the shell there's a section of the rollcage, on top of which the ribbon cable sits. I guess where the keyboard meets the rollcage there, it's just too thick of plastic and it bends up a tad. The wifi ant...

T61 dash hump - PIC WARNING

Hi all, new poster here. I just got a T61. In the (distant) past I've owned a 760EL and a T20, and I recently bought this used T61 to replace my IdeaPad Y510 which was literally falling apart. Anyways, it looks like my T61 has a little hump on the "dash" right in front of the screen, where the ribbo...
