Okay, I'm certifiably nuts. I'm wedded to the 600X with a bond that doesn't quit. Read my other posts, please. Since I have one with a dead motherboard, and one with a not so dead LCD and video adapter, I'd like to find someone who will put the two together, test out the resulting one, and establish...
Now the 2645-4eu is gone. I think it's the video adapter because it will show that it's booting but nothing gets to the external monitor. Last night it hung up in powering off, and I woke at 3 am to a completely teal screen with nothing on it. When I tried to turn the computer off, it wouldn't insta...
I can barely see a picture in the screen's darkness, but it's there. Since I have the good display from my other 600X, I can, I hope, simply put the good display with all its parts and case on the computer with the bad display.
I'm off to look at the Youtube videos now.! Thanks.
The HD that I'm currently using came with XP Pro and no IBM software. I've got a recovery disc with all of the IBM goodies that came on it.
Can I install parts of it without affecting my OS and other things that I've put on the current HD, or will I need to format it first and lose everything?
Thanks for the tip about the Portable Drive Bay. That will solve my sentimental attachment to the 600X series. I have a 2645-4eu with a dead display LCD. The video adapter is good because I am currently using the computer with a CRT monitor and it's working well. I just replaced the Keyboard, and th...
I took a dead 2645-9eu to a computer shop to see if its deadness was simply a power supply problem. It isn't. Shop says it's motherboard related and they don't fix those. Shop offers to send it to a factory depot for motherboard repair or replacement. This will cost about 50 bucks for shipping, plus...
I have the exact same problem with my 600X 2645-9eu. I will try all the suggested fixes before I write it off or send it out for repair. If these aren't right for the 600X, let me know. I'm sure it's something to do with the power because when it's plugged in and turned on, it tries to get power to ...
Thanks, Phil. For now, I'll just stick with the 450 mhz. I was worried because I do want to run XP Pro on this machine, and didn't know if the processor could handle the bloat ware that is XP. I've been living with 98SE on this machine, but most software upgrades like Firefox no longer support 98SE.
I'm not quite sure what you mean, but I have a 600X with a dead USB port. I bought a PCMCIA USB 2/ Firewire card, installed the USB 2 drivers that came with it (not needed in XP), and have functional USB again. USB 2 will still run USB 1.1 or maybe even USB 1. If you don't need the Firewire, you can...
Need to ask questions about merging and upgrading laptop parts. I have a 600X 2645-4eu 450 mhz. From what I read here, it means an MMC2 Celeron processor. Is that correct? I know it doesn't have speed step. I also have a dead 2645-9eu with the 650 Mhz Speed Step processor. What will happen if I put ...
I did try the modem removal and nothing changed. Every time I flicked the off/on switch, the first round light to the left on the inside of the case flicked amber, but nothing happened. Case lights (battery and crescent moon) still show no power. I switched the modems and same thing--nothing. Laptop...
Is the Mini PCI modem THE modem? I've found the modem before. If I pull the modem from Laptop 2 (650mhz), will I need to install the one from Laptop 1 before I test it? Or can I just turn it on and if it's getting power it will boot with a modem? If it is the modem that's the problem, shouldn't I ju...
It's just the backlight. I'm fairly sure of that. Is the trackpoint part of the keyboard? I'm kind of bummed at losing the 650mhz Step Step processor. I take it your opinion is that Laptop 2 with all usable parts and ports is not worth trying to fix. I really need something that is capable of runnin...
I have two 600Xs. One is a 450 mhz that ran Win98SE (Laptop 1) , and the other is an recent ebay purchase. The ebay one is a 650 mhz with speed step that ran XP (Laptop 2). I bought Laptop 2 because on Laptop 1 the screen went dark and the serial port had died long ago. I was using Laptop 1 with an ...
