I've had the same symptom once each on two different T60s. In both cases, the MB-to-display cable developed one or more open circuits. At some point, repeated cable flexing due to opening and closing the lid will inevitably cause failure.

Re: Indicator lights don't work
Well, I picked up a used inverter for a few bucks, installed it, and got no joy. I then got a new Chinese screen cable for 15 bucks. Voila! Problem solved. I've now got enough blinking lights to brighten any geek's day. The cable is exactly identical to the original, appearance-wise. I just hope it ...

Re: Foam tape for fan
You know, I don't know why I didn't think of it before, but the fuzzy portion of velcro self-stick tape would probably do. It's not laterally flexible like foam tape, but it comes in generous widths that could be trimmed to shape with an x-acto knife or a razor blade.

The 50 mil stuff ought to be about right, but it's over 30 bucks! Of course, a roll would last me several lifetimes. Not having several lifetimes at my disposal (though I wish I did) I'll have to make do without it.
Oh well, c'est la vie. Into each life a little gpu overheating must fall.

Re: Indicator lights don't work
I removed the fascia of a defunct screen assembly and answered my own question. The indicator lamps are integral to the inverter assembly. So it's off to Flea Bay I go.

Indicator lights don't work
I picked up a very nice 2007-64U with a lovely SXGA+ screen. It has one problem--the indicator lights below the screen don't work. I unseated and reseated the motherboard screen connector, which did absolutely nothing. Before I tear into the screen assembly itself, I thought I'd ask here if anyone h...

The camper shell tape I've seen is far too thick. The stuff I'm talking about is no more than 1 mm thick. Maybe you're referring to something I haven't run across. If so, please point me in the right direction.jronald wrote:Auto Part House: Camper Shell Tape.
You will need to cut it to size.

Thanks, but an Ebay search on "thermal tape" yields double-stick heat-conductive tape, which is not what I'm after. What I want is the single-stick stuff applied to the fan housing to help channel airflow.RealBlackStuff wrote:Or check for "thermal pad" or "thermal tape" on eBay.

Re: T60 replacement
How so? Perhaps upgrading to a SSD and maybe Windows 7, which runs quite nicely on a T60, might be worth considering? Provided your T60 still work well of course. Traditional ThinkPads won't have HDMI, but do come with a displayport, which is easily converted to HDMI with a cable. To tell the truth...

I'm not sure this is the appropriate place to pose this note, but I'll give it a go. Re: Having trouble reinstalling palmrest
I hook the front edge of the palmrest over the front edge of the T60's frame, engaging the tabs, then lower the back of the palmrest and snap it into place. Sometimes it takes me two or three tries to get it to align and snap in properly. I don't know what the factory-correct method is, but this wor...

Re: Please help - Trackpoint not operational
I had the Trackpoint in my T60 fail. The culprit was the palmrest assembly. You might want to see if you can find an inexpensive palmrest here in the Marketplace or on Ebay and try it. Make sure it comes with the electronics. Some don't.

I'm glad it worked!
I had further problems under XP, in that the wireless modem would shut down randomly. If you have similar problems, see this thread for the solution: http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.ph ... 38#p533438.
I've not had the same problems under Win 7.

But it's reliable, Bill--it just works, every time; I can't say the same for Access Connections.bill bolton wrote: The Zero Configuration Service is not a connection manager at all in the normal sense of the term!

Re: Loss of wireless connectivity for encrypted networks - T60
Try dumping Access Connections and using native Windows networking (also referred to as Zero Configuration Service) instead. AC has brought me so much grief that the very first thing I do on a new Thinkpad is uninstall it. ZCS doesn't have as many bells and whistles, but by golly it's reliable and i...

If you blow out the fan with compressed gas, make sure you keep the fan blades from spinning with a pencil tip or other suitable object. Otherwise, you'll overspeed the fan motor and kill it.

Re: Looking at a T60 to buy -- any advice? +/- etc
Just to provide a price reference, I picked up a 2007-g3u for $219 on ebay. It was billed as a refurb, but it's absolutely pristine, looking as though it's never been touched by human hands, neither inside nor out. It lacks a large HD, DVD-R, and bluetooth. Also, it has only 2 GB of RAM. But these s...

Re: T60 Trackpoint Failure
Replacing the mobo takes between 20-45 minutes, depending on how adept you are with a small Phillips #0 screwdriver. Take a piece of paper, and write down what screw(s) come from where, then tape them to that text. Reassembling: go in reverse. You currently have a 14" with ATI X1400. If you don't n...
