Thinkwiki indicates quite a few models around that time that say 20V 2.5A on the machine but 35W (16V 2.2A PN 76H0119) in documentation.

Re: T440p ERROR 2101: Detection error on ssd1 (M.2)

I would have expected the MTS420 to work; that's a SATA drive (3D NAND version of the MTS400 I have).
Might have some other problem than a bad/wrong drive. Maybe the M.2 slot is damaged or something.
Does the laptop work fine with nothing in the slot?

Some modules may say they require XMP and others may say they don't. Depends on the specific model. Laptop modules on Newegg now don't seem to even mention XMP any more. I've got 2x8GB DDR3L-1866 G.Skill Ripjaws F3-1866C10D-16GRSL running on an Ivy Bridge Precision M6700 and 2x4GB DDR3L-1866 Crucial...

I believe Vista required hotfix KB975823 for large SD cards. Win 7 without SP1 also needed a hotfix. If running XP also note this https://www.centon.com/support/90-windows-xp-cannot-see-sdxc-64gb-or-128gb-card "SDXC cards are formatted with the exFAT file system. Re: T480 with a older processor ( 7th gen i5 ) ?

Sounds like maybe there's some issue where they can't or don't want to offer nVidia graphics with Gen8 CPUs in Europe, the Middle East and Africa so they came up with a Gen7 option for that region.
Or it's just a lower-cost option even compared to a Gen8 i3.

What brand/model SSD? AFAIK the only makers of 42mm M.2 SATA SSDs are the OK Transcend and a few 'not recommended' others. Did you test with the SSD and no HDD? Did you do the install on the SSD while the HDD was installed? (These probably wouldn't have anything to do with that error but just want t...

Re: Maximum disk capacity T480

If you are more concerned with capacity than performance you could put a 4 TB SATA SSD in the main bay. The M.2 2280 slot is an adapter in the 7mm 2.5" drive bay. I believe that the 2242 slot may have better theoretical performance than than the 2280 slot. From what I've read it sounds like the 2242...

No it will not. There's a boatload of proprietary software where the compatibility was broken either in W8.x or W10.
Not to mention the fact that Win10 is locked out from CPUs that don't have specific features not required by Win2k or XP.

Re: T440p storage question.

"depending on version" probably refers to M.2 slots newer than the T440p that use NVMe instead of SATA. An NVMe/PCIe x4 slot would have max speed of 32 Gbps. I don't think you can put more than 512 GB in the M.2 slot unless you use an extender cable to put the actual drive somewhere else. The slot i...

Is it better to get a regular 2.5 SSD for this machine or will the M.2 provide faster throughput? Theoretically, the M.2 should be faster, but as I said, I can't find any details. Not sure why you'd think it would be faster. M.2 does not equal NVMe. I don't think there were any NVMe laptops when T4...

Re: Install 16GB RAM on T510

W510 is actually a bit of an oddity. It has quad core and dual core models. The quad cores are Nehalem/Clarksfield, while the dual cores are Arrandale. The dual core model is basically a T510 with NVIDIA Quadro FX 880M and probably limited to 8GB like the T510, T410, and X201. Nehalem's MCH is evid...

Win10 require some CPU features (Intel eXecute Disable XD) , but Dothan is supposed to have these unlike the earlier Banias core. Not ALL Dothan (although yours do seem to have it). Older Dothan chips don't have NX/XD (e.g. the 745 in my T42). I'd expect the T43p at least to work since others repor...

True and false. X201 is also available with i7. (My X201 came with i7-620M.) I'm going to take a guess regarding your second question. You may be thinking that i7=quad-core which is not always the case in mobile processors. i7 just means higher-tier than i5. 1st gen mobile quad-cores are 'Clarkfield...

To be fair, sometimes the light is so dim it barely lights up the kbd. It was sort of ahead of its time; we've got brighter LEDs available now. While USB 3.0 drivers is probably an issue it also seems to be true that most UEFI firmware only supports 64-bit OS. If the BIOS doesn't allow you to revert to legacy mode you won't be able to install 32-bit OS. In legacy mode you'd still run into the USB driver issue though if the system has no USB...
