Re: Why can't Windows 10 be installed on an X41 Tablet?

I will not risk doing 10 on 1st Gen i-core as well (no mouse except for external mouse). I've had no problems with trackpoint on my X201 or internal pointing devices on Precision M6500 with Windows 10. I don't use them heavily though so if it's an intermittent issue I might have just not noticed. I...

Re: Thoughts on the T440 and T450 quality

T440/T450 as well as X240/X250 Series are members of an 'elite' group that can have THREE storage drives ! Wonder if that also applies to T440p? Might buy one just to test it. That would make T440p a 4-drive unit comparable to Precision M6800 (except lower drive capacities). (Note my MSI GT72 can t...

Haswell is the first mobile CPU to significantly increase the battery life. Ivy Bridge and previous CPUs - you were lucky if you got 6 hours of battery life on a laptop. Post- Haswell the battery life runs north of double digits now. We all have Haswell to thank for that. If you're referring to the...

Kind of surprised it doesn't have SLIC 2.1 in BIOS already since Win 7 was still available as an option on the -x40 series. Certainly my T440p has it; I ordered it with Win 7 but I don't think that usually matters.

Not sure if this related or a separate issue... On machines with USB 3.0: Boot USB drives (e.g. Windows 7 Install) don't run correctly if you put load them up using a USB 3.0 port - it runs but then complains about missing drivers, and the drivers won't install even if you point to the correct dire...

The *61 series had a SATA II controller which was limited to SATA I speed in BIOS. Pretty sure newer models are not throttled like that. How are you testing? Actual benchmarking with an SSD or just a report that says 'UDMA5'? Just to make sure, is the SATA controller set to AHCI mode in BIOS? UDMA5 ...

"Running DirectX 11" doesn't mean having access to DX11 features. Same is true of DirectX 12. If you are running Windows 7 (or the right updates on Vista) you have DX11. The GPU in the X201 supports feature level 10_1 I believe. https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/desktop/ff476876%28v=v...

IMHO, just IMHO, the obsession over aspect ratio (Not 16:9!!! Please Oh God not 16:9!!! indeed I sorely wish there was a Thinkpad in the "X" series which had a "UM" ("ultra low power") i7 CPU, but it seems no such beast exists.
All the newer X-series (starting with X240) use only "UM"-equivalent CPU (15W TDP). 25W-35W are not even options.

As a related question, why would a manufacturer put NAND on a hard drive to speed up read write time and then reduce the speed that the hard drive spins from 7200 rpm to 5400 rpm? Seems at cross-purposes to me. Presumably they think that the large cache makes the speed of the underlying spinning di...

Well, the only advantages the X201 really has are screen resolution being 16:10 rather than 16:9 (and slightly more vertical pixels) and that it can take a 9.5mm drive rather than only 7mm. X220 has better CPU/GPU and optional USB 3.0, optional IPS screen, faster & higher-capacity memory, mSATA slot...

Ultrabay is probably gone for anything less than 15" screen. Wouldn't surprise me if that happened to LAN soon as well; seems like manufacturers have decided anything less than 15" should be an "Ultrabook".
