Re: Buyer's Remorse
You're not alone. I just bought a new (loaded) T510 to replace my old T42p and am not impressed. I even mentioned to my wife a couple days ago that I need to check on the return options though I haven't done so yet. In addition to the design issues you point out I'm having issues with both wireless ...

jump to WUXGA on new t61p?
First, I wanted to mention that the Lenovo site has started offering the WUXGA screen (again) on the online configuration and order tool. Second, and I don't want to beat a dead horse here, but I'm having trouble making a decision on the WSXGA vs WUXGA. 1680x1050 vs 1900x1200. really nice bright scr...

dunno if this will help or not... I had a h/d failure in my t42p, restored from media set, then ran the software installer to get all updates. At the end of that - same situation - Fn-F5 was unable to turn on the wireless radio. I fixed mine by manually downloading the latest wireless driver from th...

just two more quick data points - My T42p (Dothian 1800) and R50p (Banias? 1700 I think) are both working with no issues set to 600Mhz @ 0.700v Not extensively tested but both have 30-45 minutes of prime95 and the NHC full test under their belt. I haven't played with any other speeds yet as I was mo...

It plugs into the planar/motherboard and someone used to dealing with thinkpads can do it in about 15 minutes. Here is the FRU... 26R9985 (you pay shipping). Awesome info, thank you! Do you know if the same kit/parts works in the other series? A relatives R40 has the same power socket problem. I ca...

This has been covered several times before, a search might find some postings with more detail. There's a good chance all you need to do is remove and reinstall the USB drivers. You can do this from Control Panel -> System -> Hardware -> Device Manager. This resolved the issue (slow transfers to a U...

Check this first - go into Device Manager and see if you have a USB hub marked with a yellow question mark. If so, do a driver update on the device. On my r50p it installed an intel USB driver and then recognized the device correctly. Once I did this my USB memory key stopped getting that "for bette...

Re: VMware installation sequence
Should the VMware Tools be installed before the guest operating system? The instructions seemed to imply the opposite. JH Correct - the vmware tools are drivers and utilities that get installed to the guest operating system AFTER it is installed. I've used vmware quite a bit and haven't seen your i...

Re: Password Manager
Hi, I got my T42 today and I was so happy about the fingerprint-reader and password manager untill I read this in the help file: "The IBM Client Security Password Manager does not support Netscape Navigator: You must use Microsoft(R) Internet Explorer to utilize the functionality of the IBM Passwor...

Re: Do we need a separate wireless forum?
I'm jonesin' to write a post here to tell you about how my Hawking Hi-Gain 6dBi Omni-Directional Wireless Antenna (obtained from Buy.com for FREE after rebate) has really boosted my wifi reception TREMENDOUSLY ... but ... it's not Txx specific and I think it will get lost/ignored in the Off Topic f...

Re: Laptop Backpack for T42
I was looking for a new laptop backpack for my T42 (already have a Victorinox WebMessenger). So far, my fav is the Booq BoaXL. But I've also looked at Spire and TomBihn bags (not really interested in Jansport, Targus, or Samsonite). I'm mostly interested in quality and style irregardless of price. ...

Jhem, I ordered my T43 through EPP and received the 56 watt adapter. You can see the unit I purchased in my signature. I am more than happy with the size of the 56 watt adapter! Are you sure it's 56? My recent t42p (Jan. delivery) came with an AC adaptor that is smaller then the older 72 watt model...

acs.exe is taking about 7Mb on my machine (Atheros {IBM} card). The biggest process on my box is QuickBooks at 37Mb (which I know to be a pig). Why is 100Mb normal? ... JD Hurst ditto that. acs.exe is about 7-8MB on my t42p, ram and VM combined. I had assumed this was the access connections software.

Re: Watts that you say?
Could anyone tell me approximately how many watts my IBM Thinkpad T20 draws when plugged in (not running on the battery)? I want to buy a power inverter for use in my truck and need to know which size inverter it'll take to power my Thinkpad. Thanks, Brian The AC adaptors draw 70 watts max I think,...

Client security / password manager
Has anyone had much luck with the password manager component of client security package 5.4? This is on a new T42P if it matters. While the promotional material makes it look good, in practice it seems to be pretty - well - "unpolished" is about as polite as I could put it. I'm mainly interested in ...
