Re: Thinkpad T41 and 60gb hitachi 7200 rpm hard drive
O.K. guys I did finally got it to work. I read this thread (http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?t=26110) about disabling IBM Pre-Desktop Area in bios and it worked. Also as suggested in there I did turn my thinkpad sideways and slightly tilted towards me when inserting the drive to make sure al...

Re: Thinkpad T41 and 60gb hitachi 7200 rpm hard drive
Just a thought that may not help at all, but... even though these drives are almost always the only drive in a laptop, they do have jumpers to set divice0/device1/cable sel. I've never seen one with a jumper in place (except when I use an adapter to put a 2.5" drive in my desktop), but if one was i...

Re: Thinkpad T41 and 60gb hitachi 7200 rpm hard drive
This drive is pretty old. Was it a new old stock in a sealed bag? If it is not, it could have some damage on it. Try leaving a blank space before the primary partition, about 1GB in size. Basic premise is to write the FAT away from where it normally resides, the area with potential damage. This can...

Re: Thinkpad T41 and 60gb hitachi 7200 rpm hard drive
I just finished cloning with True Image 11 Home and nothing. At boot I get error message (inteliboot) 'Media test failure - check cables" and bios still does not see the drive in the bay. I don't know what else to try.

Re: Thinkpad T41 and 60gb hitachi 7200 rpm hard drive
typing on my t41 now. I imaged my 5400 hard drive to a Hitachi HTS721060G9AT00 7200 about a year ago. Just had a problem with my 5400 and installed my imaged 7200 and was up and running in 5 minutes. Download Acronis True image trial to see if it works. There is a limitation on the size of the part...

Re: T41 Processor upgrade - worth it?
O.k. I have another question. I have found 1800mhz socket 479 cpu (it is SL8QZ) (OEM) supposedly pulled from Acer laptop. On http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Intel_Pentium_M_microprocessors page it says it is Pentium M 745A and all other specs are the same as other two 1800s, Will this fit my T4...

Re: Fair price for an in-warranty T60?
Well, my T40P feels like a rock (weighs less, of course). The T60P 15" I have is too big, so it sits un-used. As for the eBay seller, i have purchased many desktops and LCD monitors from him and always felt I received value for my money. My main concern was price, as I'm not up-to-date on the T60. ...

would I need a different fan for 1.8? And what do you think about 2.1ajkula66 wrote:1.8 Dothan runs cooler and quieter than 1.6 or 1.7 Banias that T41s were shipped. This is a cheap upgrade nowadays, although you're not likely to feel the difference in speed itself.
Thanks

T41 Processor upgrade - worth it?
Hi! I read the previous thread on cpu upgrade (http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=56288&p=488071#p488071) and got interested. Do you know what kind of performance difference would you expect with upgrade from 1.6 ghz. I see 1.8 and 2.0 cpus have 2mb L2cache vs. 1mb on 1.6 model. Also I f...

Hi! Just curious, what kind of performance would you expect with upgrade from 1.6 ghz. I see 1.8 and 2.0 cpus have 2mb L2cache vs. 1mb on 1.6 model. Thanks. Edit: Oh and I see in the list M765 2100mhz (SL7V3 and SL7UZ) at 400 FSB, would that work on T41? Also I found on eBay this SL7EP 1700mhz and S...

Re: Thinkpad T41 and 60gb hitachi 7200 rpm hard drive
ever since ghost was acquired by symantec it has gone downhill.. acronis true image will clone the drive no problem.. the drive will work fine in your T41.. you might check on the firmware rev. level on the hitachi drive as back when those were new there was a firmware version that would crash thos...

Re: Thinkpad T41 and 60gb hitachi 7200 rpm hard drive
Start>Control Panel>Administrative tools>computer management>Storage>disk management The drive should show up as a USB drive. You have more options here than in windows explorer (my computer). I did that and again nothing. Bios don't see it. I noticed that when I start the laptop with this drive in...

Re: Thinkpad T41 and 60gb hitachi 7200 rpm hard drive
If you go to windows disk management (hardware management) while it's in the USB enclosure and FDISK and partition it, then put it back into the main drive bay, does the BIOS see it? You should have no problem using this drive in the T41. Ok, I did that and again nothing. Bios don't see it. I notic...

Re: Thinkpad T41 and 60gb hitachi 7200 rpm hard drive
Ok here is the update. ActiveKilldisk did format and erase the drive. With it still connected via USB I insert Windows Installation disk and it saw the drive (with no partition) but it could not install OS because it was on USB. So I again inserted it into the drive bay but once again no drive prese...

Re: Thinkpad T41 and 60gb hitachi 7200 rpm hard drive
With the new drive in the USB enclosure, run activekilldisk on it. This is assuming that the data that exists on it is useless. This is just a shot in the dark, but it will eliminate any issues with an MBR that perhaps your T41 does not like. http://www.killdisk.com Thanks I will try that, I can ru...

Re: Thinkpad T41 and 60gb hitachi 7200 rpm hard drive
Thanks, Yes the old drive is still working when I put it back in. It just doesn't make sense because I'm using the caddy for the new drive and I can feel being seated in as I push the drive in. I will try to maybe insert it without a caddy. If not I guess I'll sell it on eBay and buy 5400rpm, I don'...

Thinkpad T41 and 60gb hitachi 7200 rpm hard drive
Hi, this is my first post here on the forums, I've been reading a lot of your topics here but never had a need to register and now I do and hope I can get help. I have T41 2374-7FU (1.6 Ghz, 2Gb Ram, and 40Gb 5400rpm Hitachi drive) and about a month ago I decided to upgrade hard drive as I have not ...
