Re: X62 problems, quirks, and fixes

Have a 3rd batch X62 that started auto powering on and then automatically and permanently turning off in a few seconds after until power is removed. After some debugging I noticed it worked with the keyboard removed and later narrowed it down to the keyboard screw closest to the video outputs. If th...

Sure. I sent you a PM with details on when I'll be there next. It has been sitting on the self for the last couple years, so no rush on my end either.

SOLD: X61 Tablet + Ultrabase for parts, but working. Free

My X61 Tablet has gotten to the point where repairing it costs more than it's worth to me, so looking to give it away to anyone that might want it for cost of shipping. The computer itself is functional and the keyboard is in pretty good condition considering the age, but there are a lot of things t...

Re: X62 problems, quirks, and fixes

The board seems to have buggy iommu. I had the same problem in linux, but adding "intel_iommu=igfx_off" to kernel boot options solved the problem for me. I wonder if you can do something similar in windows. Doesn't seem to be my problem, still freezing after 5-10 minutes. What is your X62 cpu? Is i...

Re: X62 problems, quirks, and fixes

Could it be overheating. Was it a prepared system, or did you install the motherboard yourself? Have you monitored the CPU temperatures? It is a prepared system. I have not watched them previously (although it's unlikely since the freeze had no correlation to workload), but right now CPU temps repo...

Re: X62 problems, quirks, and fixes

Anyone had problem with hard freezes? Got my X62 a few days ago and after a about an hour of operation it would just freeze (no network response, sound buffer repeating if sound was playing). It seemed to not happen in Linux, and downgrading the Intel GPU driver seemed to alleviate the issue on Wind...

Re: Survey 3 of ?? is up + PLEASE VOTE FOR this forum Aspect Ratio

I don't really understand the negativity towards Thinkpads as gaming machines (although I do understand the people that don't need it not wanting to worry about the dedicated GPU failing). The trackpoint is an awesome mouse for mobile gaming (that is without carrying an external mouse). There are so...

Re: Warning: incompetent, lousy shops for Thinkpad parts

I've actually been to ACS in person. The place is located right down the street from my university campus. As I understand it the mainly deal with fortune 500 companies and the government, which is why you'll probably notice they have rediculously cheap prices on some parts and overly expensive pric...

Re: R60 Hinge problems?

if it applies to your sitch. Good luck :) I don't believe this is the same issue. The base of the laptop is fine. The screws I'm talking about are the three on the side of the display that attach to the hinge arm. Just below the bottom most display screw the arm shears thus removing all leverage on...

Re: R60 Hinge problems?

Thanks for the replies. I have a feeling the problem is indeed swift opening/closing from the corner. It's the right hinge arm that breaks just below the bottom screw. My mom isn't exactly the kind that likes to be told what she's doing wrong, but I'll see what I can do.

R60 Hinge problems?

My mom just broke her 2nd set of hinges on her 15" R60. Are weak hinges a known issue with the R60 or is my mom really rough on the laptop?

Re: Display flickering on open/close

The odd distortion and flickering is definitely back. Does anyone know if the WAN and non-WAN cables interchangable on a model that doesn't have a WAN card? Edit: Just in case someone comes across this post in the future. Yes the cables will work , but the lengths seem to be slightly off. That is to...

Re: what to use to glue new screen to frame on X61 tablet

The X61 tablets at least used a leaking goop to hold the bezel as well. I suppose it could have been tape at one point since I know adhesive on, for example, masking tape will ooze if heated, but it looked more like glue. Personally I just removed all of it and the screws and clips do just fine at h...

Display flickering on open/close

So my X61 Tablet has been somewhat of a project laptop. The previous owner didn't take the best care of it (a few cracks) and it developed the bubbling issue. I've replaced the screen with an X60 part and on occasion when opening/closing the screen the display with flicker a little. This ranges from...

Re: Error with Lenovo's shipping info page

Yeah. I got that with the T530 I recently bought. When they ship it you'll get a notification by email and the link in there should work though. It took 4 days for the laptop to ship and then a week for it to arrive, but yours may vary.

Re: Looking for Thinkpad Recommendation!

My X61 Tablet has a little bit of wobble when the screen is not in the process of turning, but hardly anything worth mentioning. I wonder if the hinges becoming loose was the reason Lenovo ditched the bi-directional hinge. In terms of the bezel separation problem, I can't recall what models it affec...

Re: Anyone with warranty upgrade experience?

Called again. After giving the order numbers they admitted it was a mistake, but told us it would take a few weeks. After the warranty expired I went ahead and posted about it on the Lenovo forums. That must have gotten somewhere since I now have an email that says the warranty was extended until 20...

Re: Anyone with warranty upgrade experience?

Just curious if you got anywhere with the warranty. Well the warranty was purchased and I have the receipt. However, the website still says it ends at 5-25-2012. We called Lenovo about it about a week ago, but didn't have the receipt on hand so I guess they couldn't do anything. The guy told us to ...

Re: X60T XGA-screen on X61s no go - why?

Im not planning on using the digitizer on the X61s. I just like to know how the thing works. I always thought that it was the glass that was sensitive somehow but apparently the digitizer sits behind the screen.. Yes, the digitizer sits behind the screen. It uses an electromagnetic signal to detect...

Bump. Lowered asking price. Also, if this doesn't sell it will probably eventually head to the thrash, so if anyone is interested at all please feel free to make any offer. I make no guarentees that I'll accept a low offer, but at the very least I'll keep them in mind.

Re: How much time and money we spend upgrading our classics.

I found out that there's a store right around the corner from my school that stocks parts for most thinkpads (old and new). Quite a few of the parts for the 380XD were $5 each so I ended up upgrading the processor to the 266MHz P2 as well as buying a dock. (Somewhat ironically the most feature fille...

Anyone with warranty upgrade experience?

My brother bought a W700ds used about a month ago. The base 3yr onsite warranty on it is due to expire on May 25th and so we're looking to upgrade it to the 5yr option. Initially we called shortly after we got the unit and the represenitive on the phone told us that the 5yr upgrade was available for...

FS: UXGA Screen Assembly for T43p + Other parts

My brother just bought a W700ds so there's no point in trying to repair this unit anymore. It is type 2668-H2U and suffered the south bridge flexing issue. The system has been completely disassembled for over a year now, so I'm willing to sell any part individually (minus the hard drive). Base inclu...

Wireless works great. :) Apparently the pen working that one time was just pure luck since I tried 3 boots and it didn't work in any case.
