Re: Two Lancasters

I was in the Air Cadets and I remember being in the Battle of Britain Parade several times - We were always facing away from the runway, however for the flyby everyone would turn and watch (even though we were told not to) - The last one I was in there was the Lancaster, a Spitfire, and I believe a ...

Re: Pocket Knife Sharpener

The lansky system is awesome, it is easy to use, does a good job and lets you adjust the angle depending on what you use the knife for. As to the stand, I've never seen it before now, but its easy to use just holding it in your hand, and the case makes it nice to carry with you (we bring it to the c...

Re: Somebody must hang for this...

The Canadian Multilanguage keyboard is the same, with the short shift key - that is probably the single biggest reason I first got a ThinkPad was that they were the only systems I could find with a US keyboard - all it took was typing one essay with a slash rather than a capital letter and I was rea...

Re: Using three displays at once on T400 with dual graphics?

Unfortunately, it is impossible to drive 4 displays at once off the T400. While there appear to be 4 display options on the system, they are the same "connection" - there is a single digital and a single analog video pathway, and the video cards switch entirely - you cannot have both of them enabled...

personally I would recommend getting an ultrabay adapter, since they would be faster than usb as well as being rated for more insertions/removal - SATA is technically only rated for 50. if you are going to just switch drives, I would recommend getting a second caddy so that the circuit board on the ...

Re: Cloning vs Imaging

Just to clarify if I am understanding you correctly, you want to have an external drive that is a clone of the internal drive, and use that to swap in rather than having an image and restoring it back, which is all you can do now, right? I'm not overly familiar with cloning software, however it woul...

No, you do not need to install vista first. You can do a clean installation with the media, however you may run into an issue activating windows, in which case you should be able to just activate over the phone rather than over the internet.

Re: Minecraft on a T43p ???

do you have the most recent driver for the x3100, or just the default one windows or system update installs? On my T61 it ran, and while it did lag occasionally, it wasn't unplayable by any means - actually it ran better than my gaming desktop, but I think there was a conflict with something on that...

Re: which AntiVirus sw for T23?

I've used MSE for several years now and never had a problem with it, and I find it to be among the least resource intensive AV programs I've found; while I wouldn't recommend running without AV software, I agree that if you are smart about what you click you shouldn't have issues - I would recommend...

Re: Question about Windows 7 COA on x220?

Just a note about activating the COA on the bottom of the system, occasionally I have found that they don't activate online right away, and you need to call in to activate it, however if you reinstall windows later, the code should activate without a problem.

Re: Hyper-Threading with T30 on linux

I'm not sure why this happens, but I have seen it before where the processor shows the hyperthreading flag as existing and disabled rather than just not showing it at all. This is a shot in the dark, but I wonder if the software bases the flags off the codename (or family/model/stepping...) because ...

^Very true - for file and printer sharing and downloading, you don't need much power. Where you need power is if you want to use it as a media server where it reencodes on the server side and sends that over the network, which is useful for mobile devices (watching HD videos on my playbook does load...

Re: Keeping a T61 in docking cool?

the dock is fairly well vented if you look at it, I ran mine in it for years and never had a problem, in what I would consider extremely dusty enviroments too. You didn't mention the graphics card, but if it is intel you have nothing to worry about, and even with nivida, I doubt that there is enough...

There's always something better to do than school work  - I have a bold 9780, and I really like it, its not as fast as some of the newer phones, and obviously has a smaller screen because of the keyboard, but I'd take that trade off since I have big hands and have trouble with touch keyboards. ...

looking at the TV specs, it looks like it has a DVI input - someone else will have to chime in on this, but I believe that the docks for the T4* have DVI output, but I'm not sure if there are any resolution limitations or video card requirements (I know some models didn't support DVI with intel grap...

Re: Any guidance on how to take proper care of the Lenovo T430?

Just a note about the battery, with some models of thinkpad, if it is connected to a 65W power supply and the battery is removed, it runs at a lower speed. While I'm not sure if the T430 does that, a better solution if you are not planning to use your battery much is to open the advanced settings in...

Re: Intel 5300 AGN on G with Linksys E900 N-How do I switch it?

Another couple of possiblities are that it is dropping to the speed of the slowest connected device; My first router used to do that, it would drop to 802.11B when my T41 was connected; I would expect that they would have solved that by now, but anything is possible. The second thing I can come up w...

Re: So which models are at the bottom of the market curve now?

I think the difference is that the early laptops were so unique, they follow a different curve; the transnote is probably similar. I believe that 99% of computers will never become "classics" and the value increase, since ultimately they're all the same thing in a different case (a dell D630 has the...

I would strongly recommend against using XP on a ssd, since it is not optimized as well for it as 7 (and to a lesser extent vista). If you're feeling brave you could get a windows 8 upgrade, which is on sale until the end of January, which would run very nicely on it, however if you have a vista COA...

Re: IBM ThinkCentre M51 Tower

I would recommend a new system build; from what I have been able to find, I don't think your current GPU requires an external power connector, therefore I doubt that your PSU would have one, meaning that while yes, you have a PCIeX16 slot, you would have to upgrade your power supply, which looks to ...
