Re: X20 to X22/23/24 conversion possible?
Hi all, Looking at the exterior of X20-24 they seemed identical for all the models, just wondering if it's possible to swap in a X22/23/24 motherboard into a X20? Is it a drop-in replacement? If not, what do I need to swap out together? I was warned according to http://thinkwiki.de/X22 in the secti...

Very in-depth paper from blackhat.

I don't understand it hardly at all, but the gist is that it makes laptops vulnerable.

Re: X41 - Useful in today's world?
I am posting right now using my X41 [not tablet].
It has a 64GB Kingspec SSD 1.8" drive, and is great Still using XP SP3.
I read my email and list on Amazon.com, sometimes it is slow, but it is so solid.

Re: new member w/ an a31p 2653
Well guys, thanks for the info. I will keep it in mind. I don't game or watch videos much, so I don't use a lot of processing. Since my main 'puter is an X24 IBM 2662MPU w/ 1.13 gigahertz Intel Pentium III Mobile, I'd like to step up. WIll do some research on those sponges now. OK, found your post h...

Re: new member w/ an a31p 2653
I know this is an old thread, but wanted to update it. Here's a link to intels product page on the CPU's http://ark.intel.com/products/series/28369/Mobile-Intel-Pentium-4-Processors---M-with-400-MHz-FSB The wattage on the 2.0 MHz is 32, all the higher speeds are 35 watts, not necessarily a huge incr...

Re: A31p - a decade later (LONG)
I have a couple A31's, but they are not P's though. I would like to get one sometime. But My daily user is still an X24 which I am typing on right this moment. It is slow, but then I only have 30 tabs in Firefox open right now. Love the X series. I'm gonna have to get several of my half dozen parts ...

Re: In appreciation of the IBM Thinkpad X24
Started off w/ X20, then X21, now I am writing on an X24. I really do like it, my hinges are getting loose, but i am lazy and don't always close the lid when I pick it up to move. Not a gamer, so it still works plenty good for me. Biggest problem is stupid FireFox memory leak bogs it down badly. To ...

Re: What is best/fastest PCMCIA WiFi card ?
Ha,
How funny. Just installed a Belkin N1 Wireless card in my X23F5d8011 Ver 1000. Works great! I am using a friends office that had wireless N only enabled, & I had to update from my old D-link DWL-g650.
It is PCMCIA btw.

Check your memory
I recently had a terrible problem trying to install to a blank HD with the recovery CD. Turns out I had a bad SODIMM memory chip. Once I took that out, it all went smoothly. So, take out all memory from the slot on the bottom of your thinkpad. It worked for me.

NEVERMIND!!! It was a bad memory chip
The only reason I found it was because I tried to install W98 and got an error message Standard Mode: Fault outside of MS-DOS Extender.
Bad memory can sure cause strange problems, and make you want to pull your hair out when something does not work right.

Problem using product recovery CD for X20
I had to replace the system board in my X20 2662 - 12U. [Lightning strike on house, UPS could not catch it all] This was a celeron 500MHz. Bought a replacement sytem board from ebay. Board is a 2662-37U, a Pentium® III - 600 MHz. Long story short, I did a low level format on the hard drive, and then...
